Australian wins first place in the Los Cabos Ironman 70.3; Mexican takes second

A thousand athletes from 35 countries participated in the fourth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos, which took place on Sunday November 4th together with the Latin American Triclubs Championship.

The IRONMAN 70.3 comprises of 1.9k swimming, 90km of cycling and 21.1km of running.

Swimming was carried out at Playa Palmilla, at six twenty AM the starting shot for participants was given.

The cycling was a 90K course and then 21.1 kilometers of foot race, overall winner Australian Sam Apletton, completed the course in three hours 48 minutes, while the Mexican Mauricio Méndez came in second with a time of three hours and 53 minutes. In the women's category first place was for the also Australian Ellie Salthouse with four hours 17 minutes. Second place, went to yet another Australian, Carrie Lester who finished in four hours with 22 minutes.

As in years before the finish line was at Las Palmas Park in the Fonatur area of San Jose del Cabo.

The time limit for athletes to finish the tour was 8.5 hours total.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos had a prize pool of $ 50,000.00 Dollars in cash, in addition to 40 places distributed to categories by age for the up and coming World Championship IRONMAN 70.3 to take place next year in France.
