Alex Hernández and Ficovich Shine at the Start of the 2025 Mifel Tennis Open Los Cabos

Mexican Alex Hernández and Argentine Juan Pablo Ficovich ignited the first round of the 2025 Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, with victories that catapulted them into the second round of the ATP 250 tournament being held at the Cabo Sports Complex.
The first to advance was Ficovich, who decisively defeated Russian Alibek Kachmazov 6-3, 6-2. The Argentine dominated reliably from the back of the court, showing his adaptability to the weather and surface. “The first rounds are always difficult, but I was solid and focused,” he declared after the match. In the next round, he will face Frenchman Quentin Halys. Meanwhile, Mexican Alex Hernández staged an emotional comeback against Japanese player Taro Daniel, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a duel that lasted two hours and 28 minutes. The Acapulco native, currently ranked No. 493 in the PIF ATP Rankings, improved against the Japanese player, ranked 155th in the world.
Hernández lost the first set after being broken twice in a row, but in the second, he rallied from a 2-5 deficit to win five straight games and tie the match at 7-5. In the final set, a break in the third game was enough to seal the match at 6-4.
“I just wanted to stay positive, hit the ball, and make him miss. And that’s what happened,” said the Mexican, thrilled by his second ATP Tour victory at this same venue, three years after his triumphant debut.
The reward for his feat will be a second-round clash against the tournament’s top seed, Russian Andrey Rublev, currently ranked in the top 10 in the world, in what promises to be a high-voltage duel.
