Nicolás Mejía’s Injury Forces Latin American Pair to Withdraw from the 2025 Mifel Tennis Open Los Cabos

July 14, 2025. The first day of the doubles tournament at the 2025 Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo left intense emotions and a regrettable injury that forced the withdrawal of one of the participating Latin American pairs.
Mexican Rodrigo Pacheco and Colombian Nicolás Mejía were forced to withdraw from their first-round match against the fourth seeds, Australians Matthew Ebden and John Peers, after Mejía suffered a fall and a blow to the head at the start of the second set.
Up until that point, the Australians were dominating the match. In the first set, Ebden and Peers imposed conditions from the start, taking a 4-1 lead before the Latin American pair managed to get into their rhythm. Although Pacheco and Mejía offered greater resistance in the final stretch, they were unable to break their opponents’ serve, losing the set 6-4.
At the start of the second set, with the Australians leading 2-0, Mejía’s fall caused immediate concern. After receiving medical attention, it was determined that he could not continue, which sealed the team’s official withdrawal.
Surprise of the Day: Third Seeds Eliminated
Earlier, at the Grandstand at the Cabo Sports Complex, one of the surprises of the day occurred. The Australian pair of James Duckworth and Adam Walton, both singles specialists, eliminated the third seeds of the tournament, Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow, 7-6(5), 6-3.
The first set was an evenly matched battle that was resolved in a tiebreak, with similar statistics in first serves and points won. However, in the second set, the Australians dominated with solid serve and never gave up break points, sealing their place in the second round in one hour and 26 minutes.
Duckworth and Walton will now face the winners of the match between Joshua Paris (GBR) and Takeru Yuzuki (JPN) and Australians Blake Bayldon and Tristan Schoolkate.
