Los Cabos, host of IGLTA’s LGBTQ+ Travel Symposium, consolidates its leadership in inclusive tourism

For the first time, Los Cabos hosted the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association’s (IGLTA) LGBTQ+ Travel Symposium, a gathering that brought together tourism industry leaders, authorities, and international experts to analyze the potential of the LGBTQ+ market and Mexico’s growing position as an inclusive global destination.
The event highlighted that LGBTQ+ tourism is one of the fastest-growing segments in the world: it is estimated to reach a value of over $568 billion by 2030.
Growth of Inclusive Tourism in Los Cabos
According to figures from the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, in 2024, 21% of visitors identified as part of the LGBTQ+ community, up from 13% in 2023. This segment, comprised of 73% international tourists, recorded an average stay of 6.4 nights and an individual expenditure of nearly $6,190 pesos, exceeding the destination’s overall average.
“Inclusion is growth; investing in LGBTQ+ tourism is investing in the future and prosperity of Los Cabos,” said Rodrigo Esponda, general director of FITURCA.
Inclusion as a Competitiveness Strategy
During her presentation, Virginia Arana, IGLTA representative in Mexico, noted that investing in inclusive policies and authentic marketing strategies is both a social responsibility and a key business decision:
“The Mexican tourism sector is well positioned to take advantage of this growth, with increasingly strong LGBTQ+ travel centers and greater support for inclusive tourism.”
The symposium program included presentations by experts such as Esmeralda Araiza (DT Latina), who spoke about diversity and inclusion in the sector; Dagyi Rivera (Equality Institute), who delved into the meaning of same-sex weddings; and Danny Guerrero (The Culturist Group), who shared inclusive marketing trends for multicultural destinations.
A Safe and Diverse Destination
The symposium also celebrated Los Cabos’ commitment to establishing itself as a modern, safe, and welcoming destination, supported by its first-class tourism infrastructure, diverse cultural offerings, and growing inclusion agenda.
The event concluded with a networking reception hosted by a drag artist, a symbol of the diversity and hospitality that define the destination.
The event was supported by strategic partners such as Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa, The Main Event Cabo, Del Cabo Events, Encore, Cactus Tours, and Aria Vera.
