Five Mexicans Seek to Shine at the 2025 World Wide Technology Championship

The 2025 World Wide Technology Championship, a FedExCup Fall event on the PGA TOUR that begins this Thursday at El Cardonal at Diamante, will feature five Mexican golfers with diverse backgrounds and experience. Emilio González, Omar Morales, Emilio Gil Leyva, and Alejandro Madariaga will compete thanks to sponsor invitations, while Raúl Pereda earned his spot after qualifying on Monday.
Among them, Emilio González stands out as the only one with a guaranteed PGA TOUR membership for the 2026 season, an achievement earned after finishing fifth on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Points List. The player from San Miguel de Allende arrives in Los Cabos with a strong season, including a victory and multiple top-10 finishes. This will be his fourth appearance in a PGA TOUR event and his second consecutive appearance in this championship.
Raúl Pereda, originally from Córdoba, Veracruz, is the Mexican with the most experience on the PGA TOUR in the group. He was a member of the circuit in 2024 and comes to the tournament after a round of 64 strokes (-8) that secured his place in Monday’s qualifying round. This will be his first event of the 2025 season and his attempt to overcome the ups and downs he experienced in his rookie year.
Omar Morales, from Puebla, will have a special week as he plays his first PGA TOUR event as a professional. It will be his sixth appearance on the Tour, after having played two editions of the Mexico Open at Vidanta and two U.S. Opens as an amateur. Morales, a UCLA graduate with notable victories during his college career, is looking to make the cut for the first time in a PGA TOUR event.
Meanwhile, Emilio Gil Leyva, from Sinaloa, still an amateur, will make his PGA TOUR debut after winning the Mexican Qualifier held on October 5 at the same course. A student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, he will represent a new generation of talent emerging from clubs and university programs in the United States.
Finally, Alejandro Madariaga, also from Puebla, arrives after winning the Mexico Match Play to earn his invitation and with the recent momentum of his first professional victory on the Mexican Professional Tour. It will also be his PGA TOUR debut.
With different backgrounds but the same stage, the five Mexicans will seek to take advantage of the opportunity to compete against established PGA TOUR players, with the support of the local crowd and the chance to boost their careers on one of the most visible stages for Mexican golf.
