The Los Cabos City Council, headed by Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez, reports the successful conclusion of the monitoring visit for the international Blue Flag program. The visit was conducted by the technical team of the Foundation for Environmental Education, with the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) of Los Cabos, under the direction of Rafael Guillermo Álvarez Munguía, providing support and assistance to the auditors to ensure compliance with the program guidelines.
During the process, it was confirmed that 25 beaches in the municipality maintain their Blue Flag certification, positioning Los Cabos as one of the destinations with the highest number of beaches—27 in total—recognized for their environmental excellence, safety, and services.
As a result of the evaluation, the following beaches stood out with the highest rating (A+): Acapulquito, La Gaviota, La Ribera, Las Viudas, Palmilla, Santa María, and Paraíso Leonero.
The monitoring visit included various verification actions, among them the inspection of transects to detect microplastics, including cigarette butts, glass fragments, and other debris, using the Beach Litter Measuring System, a tool that rates sand cleanliness on a scale from A+ to D.
These inspections are part of the ongoing process to ensure that the certified beaches of Los Cabos meet international standards under 33 criteria divided into four categories: environmental information and education, water quality, environmental management, and safety and services, thus strengthening the confidence of residents and visitors.
With this monitoring visit and its favorable results, Los Cabos reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, the protection of its coastal environment, and the maintenance of world-class beaches.
