Abierto Mexicano de Tenis

The ninth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo will be held from July 14 to 19. This event consolidates Los Cabos as one of the most important destinations on the international tennis circuit, having been recognized by the ATP as one of the best 250-class tournaments.

The tournament will be held at the Cabo Sports Complex and will feature world-class figures such as Lorenzo Musetti, current number 7 in the ATP rankings and the first Top 10 player in the event’s history; Andrey Rublev, world number 14 and winner of 17 titles; as well as Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, Denis Shapovalov, and Jordan Thompson, the defending champion of the 2024 edition.

In addition to the sporting spectacle, the tournament will be broadcast on television and digital platforms in more than 120 countries, representing a high-impact media showcase to promote Los Cabos as a world-class tourist destination.

Economic and Social Impact

Geoffrey Fernández, tournament director, highlighted that since its first edition in 2016, the event has generated a cumulative economic impact of more than 120 million pesos, and in 2024 alone, this figure will reach 129.7 million, with an attendance of more than 34,000 people, including domestic and international visitors.

Fernández emphasized that the tournament not only strengthens tourism promotion but also creates jobs and boosts the local economy. The first edition employed 650 people, while in 2025 the number will exceed 1,050 workers, 98% of whom are originally from the region.

“Bringing these events helps increase employment sources, economic impact, and the visibility of media investment returns. It helps promote a destination during a season that isn’t always on the radar of many travelers,” he said.

Parallel Activities and Experiences for the Entire Family

The Mifel Tennis Open is not only a sporting event; it’s also a cultural and social celebration. The 2025 edition will include parallel activities such as:

Kids Nite

Mextenis Talks

Players Party

These activities seek to integrate the community and visitors in an atmosphere of family togetherness, culture, and entertainment.

Sports Tourism Promotion

During the event’s official presentation, Paulina Villafaña, Coordinator of Events, Conventions, and Visitors for the Municipal Tourism Department, emphasized the tournament’s importance in Los Cabos’ tourism promotion strategy.

“This event reinforces our position as the capital of international tennis and allows us to showcase the natural beauty, the hospitality of our people, and the economic dynamism of the destination,” she noted.

She also emphasized that the tournament’s return to its original summer schedule will allow for better weather conditions for players and attendees.
