Los Cabos, Baja California Sur; July 7, 2025 — The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) announces the opening of a new air route operated by Volaris that will connect Ontario, California, with Los Cabos. The inaugural flight took place on July 4, formally launching operations. This new connection will strengthen the destination’s international connectivity, facilitating access from the West Coast of the United States and expanding travel options for tourists and visitors.
This new flight will operate five days a week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Departure from Ontario is scheduled for 12:40 p.m., arriving in Los Cabos at 3:04 p.m., while the return flight will depart Los Cabos at 3:54 p.m., landing in Ontario at 6:19 p.m. The addition of this route represents a strategic step to expand travel options and consolidate Los Cabos as a top-tier international destination, offering more options for travelers. Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of FITURCA, highlighted the importance of this new route, noting that connectivity is a fundamental pillar for tourism growth in Los Cabos. “The alliance with Volaris and the opening of new routes from California represent an invaluable opportunity to continue positioning Los Cabos as a world-class destination, accessible and connected to key markets. Volaris remains a key strategic partner for Los Cabos, being the airline with the largest domestic market share to this destination,” he stated.
Between January and May 2025, Volaris accounted for 45.4% of all domestic passengers arriving at Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). Furthermore, the airline leads in total market share with 16% of the overall market share, positioning itself as the main driver of domestic air connectivity to the destination. So far this year, domestic traffic to Los Cabos has grown 7.5%, driven largely by the connectivity Volaris offers from key hubs such as Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Tijuana. Volaris’ contribution has been instrumental in bringing more than 585,000 domestic passengers to Los Cabos in the first five months of 2025. Since 2020, the airline has maintained sustained growth in the destination, increasing the number of available seats by 165% between 2020 and 2023. This growth has been exponential: in 2021, passenger numbers nearly doubled, increasing by 83%, and traffic continued to increase in subsequent years. In 2023, Volaris transported more than 1.5 million passengers to and from Los Cabos, consolidating its position as one of the leading airlines in the destination.
Volaris’ ongoing commitment to Los Cabos has been key to democratizing access to the destination, connecting it with new markets and promoting domestic tourism. With the recent announcement of two new routes from Oakland and Ontario, California, Volaris strengthens its international presence and connects Los Cabos with key U.S. cities that previously lacked direct flights. This opens up new opportunities to attract tourism from the U.S. West Coast, a strategic market with high purchasing power.
“We are very pleased to announce the start of operations on this new route, connecting two truly exceptional destinations, both with first-class tourist attractions and wonderful weather. With this, Volaris reaffirms its commitment to bringing its customers closer to their families and friends on both sides of the border, allowing them to enjoy the potential and beauty that these destinations offer,” said Carlos Alejandro Molina Macías, Market Development Manager for Volaris.
The addition of the Ontario-Los Cabos route by Volaris reaffirms the commitment of FITURCA and the airline to promoting air connectivity and the tourism development of Los Cabos. This new connection will not only facilitate access for international tourists but will also strengthen the local economy and the destination’s position in the global market.
