Colombian Nico Echavarría returned this week to the World Wide Technology Championship with fresh memories of his outstanding performance in 2023, when he finished tied for sixth place at El Cardonal at Diamante. The player expressed his enthusiasm for competing again in Mexico, where he feels especially comfortable.

“I’m happy to be back here; it’s like playing in your own country. It’s incredible to be able to speak your native language. When you have the opportunity to be in a place where your culture and language are alive, you enjoy it to the fullest,” he commented. Echavarría also thanked the tournament organizers for their hospitality and World Wide Technology for their commitment as a sponsor.

Regarding the key aspects of the course, the golfer emphasized that the wind will be a determining factor. “If there isn’t much wind, the scores will be low. You have to be aggressive, attack many holes, and make birdies. The course’s main defense is the wind, and everything depends on the tee time and the conditions,” he explained. Echavarría arrives motivated after a season in which he found greater consistency, including a top-10 finish in Japan, where he was the defending champion. He noted that his mental approach has evolved significantly: “My game has progressed positively. Now I play more to win tournaments than just to make the cut. When you believe you can win, the game changes completely.”

The Colombian also shared an important moment off the course: his wedding will take place on November 29 in Punta Cana. Laughing, he admitted that his partner, Claudia, has handled most of the organization. “She has taken care of almost everything while I train and compete. I am very grateful. We hope to finish the season strong and then enjoy that very special moment.”

With good form, confidence, and a close connection with the Latin American public, Nico Echavarría will look to once again contend for the top spots this week in Los Cabos.
