Los Cabos International Film Festival Announces a Renewed and Future-Oriented 2025 Edition

The Los Cabos International Film Festival officially presented the new phase of its thirteenth edition, which will take place from December 10 to 14, 2025. The festival’s management emphasized that this year marks the consolidation of a profound transformation based on innovation, creative convergence, and a clear vision for the future of the audiovisual industry.
During the presentation, the organization highlighted that this edition originates from Baja California Sur and projects itself toward new forms of creation, incorporating more collaborations, cross-disciplinary approaches, and a vibrant dialogue among different creative industries. Festival director Paola Desentis acknowledged the challenge of assuming responsibility for the event and expressed her gratitude for the support of local media and strategic partners.
Among the most significant supporters, he mentioned IMCINE, FITURCA, and the Escuela Superior de Cine (E-CINE), whose collaboration has allowed for the institutionalization and strengthening of programs such as the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund and La Baja Inspira. He also thanked companies and organizations such as Grupo Questro, Kundavi, Puerto Los Cabos, the Cut Out Festival, Cinemex, Cinapsi Cine, partner hotels, restaurants, and cultural centers that are joining this new phase.
The 2025 edition is structured around the concept “Beyond the Screen,” a proposal that responds to the digital transformation that has redefined the production, distribution, and consumption of audiovisual content. The organization stated that the festival seeks to integrate film, music, digital art, and other contemporary expressions, fostering the participation of the public, private, and academic sectors. Furthermore, the need to create meaningful experiences for today’s audiences, who now have multiple consumption options outside of movie theaters, was emphasized.
The territory of Baja California Sur is once again positioned as a narrative and creative hub. The combination of desert and sea, as well as its proximity to innovation hubs like Hollywood and Silicon Valley, strengthens the festival’s position as a strategic meeting point for global exchange, collaboration, and cultural diplomacy.
In terms of programming, coordinator Salvador Amores led a curatorial effort that envisions Puerto Los Cabos as a coastline open to the world. The Marejada International Showcase will feature thirteen feature films, including twelve international premieres, with renowned filmmakers such as Claire Denis, László Nemes, and Gianfranco Rosi, alongside American offerings and emerging voices. The selection will offer a glimpse into narrative and talent trends that will likely shape the upcoming awards season.
Mexican cinema will have two central spaces: the La Baja Inspira competition, which received 1,600 submissions and selected nine finalists, and the National Showcase, comprised of ten films evaluated by international juries.
The Beyond the Screen program will also offer activities at Crania, featuring digital art, special screenings, and musical events. Highlights include a piece by digital artist Tania Reza, a restored screening of Amores Perros, a Depeche Mode documentary, and the premiere of Ed Maverick’s La Nube en el Jardín, followed by a themed party.
The festival’s renewal has also been driven by Ximena Lamadrid, artistic coordinator, who has strengthened relationships with emerging creators and young audiences. Her work includes a talent panel at El Ganso and a collaboration with Sinapsis Cine for the official promotional video, inspired by the region’s fishing and pearl farming traditions.
The 2025 edition actively incorporates the local community with the participation of fishermen in artistic pieces, a screening of the documentary El Pulmo, and a partnership with Space Christmas for the closing event at Crania. The goal, the organization stated, is to consolidate a festival that represents, celebrates, and showcases the creativity of Los Cabos to the world. With a reinforced structure, a renewed identity and a vision focused on the evolution of the audiovisual industry, the Los Cabos International Film Festival officially welcomed its Beyond the Screen stage.
