Los Cabos Announces the Return of IRONMAN 70.3 with a Projected 130 Million Pesos

After a three-year hiatus, the international IRONMAN 70.3 competition returns to Los Cabos on April 26, 2026, a sports tourism event that the Municipal Government fully supports.
The announcement, led by Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez, was made at a press conference alongside Mauricio Zavala, director of IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos 2026, and Juan Colin, brand representative. The event aims to showcase the destination as a world-class, safe, and well-organized venue.
The participation of 1,500 athletes from 45 countries is expected. Mayor Christian Agúndez highlighted the global impact of the event and the anticipated economic benefits: “It has been estimated that the event will generate at least 130 million pesos annually. We believe it will be much higher this year. One of the most important objectives here is to promote sports, not only locally, but also nationally and internationally.”
The athletic event will challenge competitors with a total distance of 113 kilometers (70.3 miles), distributed as follows:
- 1.9 kilometers of swimming.
- 90 kilometers of cycling.
- 21.1 kilometers of running.
For the professional category, the competition will offer a prize purse of $25,000, further solidifying Los Cabos as an attractive venue for the triathlon elite.
The 15th Administration, through its Economic Development, Tourism, and Sports departments, is coordinating ongoing working groups with the organizing committee to ensure logistics and security, seeking to minimize disruptions to citizen mobility. This joint effort reaffirms Los Cabos’ capacity to host large-scale events in a clean and organized environment.
Also present at the announcement were Abril Urueta Martínez (Director General of Economic Development), Elton Olachea Arce (Head of INDEM), José María Jarquín Herrera (Private Secretary), Francisco Cota Márquez (Director of Civil Protection and Risk Management), Roberto Flores Rivera (Director General of Urban Development), and José Samuel Cisneros Peruyero (Head of Business Development and Promotion).
