MEXICAN ALEX HERNÁNDEZ ADVANCES TO MAIN DRAW IN LOS CABOS
The Mexican player earned one of the four qualifying spots for the main draw, along with South Korean Soon Woo Kwon and Americans Aidan Mayo and Tristan Boyer.
Los Cabos, July 26, 2026 – Mexican Alex Hernández, South Korean Soon Woo Kwon, and Americans Aidan Mayo and Tristan Boyer advanced to the main draw of the tenth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, which will be played from July 27 to August 1 at the Cabo Sports Complex.
Hernández defeated his compatriot Alan Magadán in two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (6), in one hour and 54 minutes.
“It was an extremely tough match, I think one of the toughest of my career, one of the most nerve-wracking. Alan played an impressive level of tennis, and so did I; we both displayed great tennis, and I’m very happy with the victory,” Hernández said after the match.
“I’m happy to have the opportunity to play in the main draw of an ATP 250. I don’t play in these kinds of tournaments every week, and well, whoever my opponent is, I’ll try to compete,” he added. Two breaks in the third and ninth games made the difference in the first set, and in the second, Magadán took a 4-2 lead, but Hernández broke him in the eighth game to level the score at 4-4. Both players held serve until 6-6, forcing a tiebreak.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Soon Woo Kwon defeated Australia’s Edward Winter 7-5, 6-2, and American Aidan Mayo beat Spain’s Roger Pascual Ferra 6-1, 6-4, while another American, Tristan Boyer, also secured his place in the main draw.
Norrie takes center stage
On the first day of the main draw, Britain’s Cameron Norrie, the 2021 champion, will face American Aleksandar Kovacevic, a finalist in Los Cabos in 2015. The day’s action opens with Mexican Alex Hernández taking on Australian Bernard Tomic, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser.
Also playing are Canadian Gabriel Diallo against American Tristan Boyer; and in another match, Hong Kong’s Chak Lam Coleman Wong will face American Darwin Blanch. In the only doubles match, Mexicans Luis Carlos Álvarez and Alan Magadán will face Australian Edward Winter and American Boyer.
