El Ganzo Hotel, known for its “Artist in Residence” art program, has witnessed the creation of a new work that fuses art and environment in a unique way. Prominent visual artist Rachel T. Hicks unveiled a mural at the hotel, expanding on her already notable career in the world of painting.

Rachel Hicks works with a variety of media and combines bright colors and vivid subject matter to create beautifully crafted contemporary works. She is inspired by everyday life and especially loves the “constantly changing details of the human form.” By painting subjects that many can relate to, both serious and joyful, she creates works charged with euphoria and wonder.

“If I had to find an underlying theme, I would say it is my attempt to connect with the audience, whether through photography, wearable art, my experience of immersive pain, or enveloping a space, the media changes, but the pattern repeats. This is a hotel for adults. I thought I would take the opportunity to depict a scene of nude beauty draped over the ever inspiring female form. The dancing women cascading dreaming in and out of the ethereal abstract landscape, the monochromatic color palette so as not to overpower the beauty of the cotton candy sky that is painted each night, this project is special to me as Baja will be my official home next year.” added the artist describing the inspiration for her work.

Rachel embraced the nude, pure beauty of the female form, set against the backdrop of Baja’s enchanting sunsets. Her monochromatic palette reflects the delicate hues of our cotton candy skies, ensuring the natural splendor shines through.

As Rachel prepares to call Baja home, this project stands as a prelude to her future here, intertwining her life’s work with the pulse of this land.

This Saturday, November 16, Plaza Antonio Mijares will be the setting for the first edition of the Oktober Fest in San José del Cabo. This event, dedicated to craft beer, seeks to promote and give visibility to local products, providing a cultural and family experience that celebrates the creativity of South Californian brewers.

In a press conference, Ana Gabriela Navarro, municipal director of Tourism, and Nicolás Pérez, co-organizer of the event, highlighted the change of venue for this festival, which had previously been held in the parking lot of the Cultural Pavilion in Cabo San Lucas. For this edition in Plaza Mijares, an attendance of up to three thousand people is expected, with free admission until 10:00 p.m.

“It is a festival designed for people to learn about the styles and flavors that craft beer offers. “It is not an event of excessive consumption, but rather an experience to enjoy with the family and to support the growth of local breweries,” said Pérez.

The festival will feature the participation of six local breweries and eight restaurants, including prominent brands such as Baja Brewing, Yenekamu Brewing, and Cervecería Sierra de la Laguna, among others. Each brewery will offer between four and five styles of beer, with prices around 100 pesos.

Currently, Baja California Sur has more than 30 breweries, concentrated mainly in La Paz, but also present in Mulegé, Loreto, and Los Cabos, where it is expected that events like this will boost the consumption and production of craft beer in the region.

From December 4 to 8, the Los Cabos International Film Festival once again fills the Californian Gulf with cinematic culture. With a renewed format and a firm mission to showcase the best of contemporary cinema, this year the festival brings its long-awaited program “Encuadres Mexicanos” and unique screenings in iconic locations in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

An Opening Party at Crania with “Better Man”

The festival will kick off on December 4 at the multi-sensory space Crania, with the Latin American premiere of “Better Man (2024),” a vibrant biographical docudrama about the life of iconic British singer Robbie Williams. Under the direction of Michael Gracey, known for “The Greatest Showman,” this production offers an intimate look at Williams’ career and personal challenges. The location, which combines art, nature and music, promises an unforgettable opening experience for attendees.

Movie Night at Hotel El Ganzo: “Limonov: The Ballad of Eddie”

The festival program also includes a special outdoor movie night at Hotel El Ganzo, where the film “Limonov: The Ballad of Eddie” will be presented. This film, directed by Kirill Serebrennikov, is an adaptation of the life of Edouard Limonov, a Russian poet and novelist, whose impact left a mark in New York and Paris before becoming a controversial figure in Russia. The screening, under the starry sky and in an exclusive setting, will culminate with a live music session.

Closing event at the Puerto Los Cabos Sculpture Garden with “Maria”

The closing event, on December 7 at the Puerto Los Cabos Sculpture Garden, promises another unique moment with the Mexican premiere of “Maria (2024),” starring Angelina Jolie in the role of the famous soprano Maria Callas. Directed by Pablo Larraín, the film explores the last week of Callas’ life in Paris, exploring her solitude and artistic legacy. This film completes a trilogy by Larraín dedicated to iconic figures of the 20th century.

Mexican Frames: A Space for National Talent

The festival, faithful to its commitment to promote Mexican cinema, presents this year the series Encuadres Mexicanos, which includes ten recent feature films in which Mexico collaborates with countries such as Spain, the United States and France. These films offer an in-depth look at social and cultural issues and range from documentary to fiction. Among the titles to be screened are “Animal/Humano” by Alessandro Pugno and “Nómadas de la 57” by Alberto Arnaut Estrada and José María Castro Ibarra. Each screening will be accompanied by a question and answer session with its creators, giving the public an opportunity to learn about the challenges and creativity behind each story.

Support for New Talents with the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund

The Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund, a pillar of the festival, supports filmmakers in the development stage. This year, six first and second Mexican film projects will receive mentoring from prominent figures in the industry, such as producer Nicolás Celis and filmmaker Lila Avilés. Among the selected projects are “Cómo se hace para volver” by Carlos Morales and “Señor Metro” by Isabel Vaca and Arturo Mendicutti. This support contributes to the growth of the Mexican film industry, promoting innovation and quality in national cinema.

Workshops for Local Filmmakers and Open Conversations

The festival also has a special workshop for filmmakers from Baja California Sur, with mentoring on production and project development given by producer Eréndira Núñez Larios. Eight filmmakers from the region will participate in this program, demonstrating the festival's commitment to the growth of local talent. In addition, the event will offer two free-access conversations: Mexico: Cinema without Borders, which addresses international co-production, and From the movie theater to your pocket, on digital transformation and accessibility in cinema.

Baja Inspira Itinerante: Free Cinema for All

As part of its mission to bring cinema to everyone, the festival presents the program “La Baja Inspira Itinerante”, with free screenings in different communities of Baja California. This cycle will conclude on November 29 and 30 at Playa Costa Azul, with the screening of “Chèche Lavi: Buscando una vida” by Sam Ellison and Yūrei (ghosts) by Sumie García.

The Los Cabos International Film Festival continues its work of enriching the cultural and cinematographic scene of Baja California Sur, offering a unique space for the celebration of cinema and cultural exchange in a paradisiacal setting.

Mexican golfers are excelling in the professional arena, each forging their path to the PGA TOUR and accumulating important achievements in their careers:

1 Santiago de la Fuente: This young man from Ocotlán, Jalisco, has excelled in 2024 by placing 23rd in the PGA TOUR University ranking, which granted him an exemption to the Second Stage of the Q-School and the Latin American Swing of the PGA TOUR Americas 2025. He won the Latin America Amateur Championship in Panama, which guaranteed him participation in the Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship in 2024. De la Fuente has also participated in other PGA TOUR tournaments and recently played on the Asian Tour, with outstanding results.

2 Omar Morales: A promising 21-year-old amateur from Puebla who competes for UCLA and is the top Latin American amateur, ranked 12th in the World Amateur Rankings. Runner-up at the 2024 Latin America Amateur Championship, he has played in the Mexico Open at Vidanta and qualified for the U.S. Open on two consecutive occasions. He is in his final year at UCLA, where he looks to strengthen his path to the PGA TOUR.

3 Emilio González: From San Miguel de Allende, he has had a career on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and the Korn Ferry Tour. In 2024, he finished 49th on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, which guaranteed him full status for 2025 and qualification for the Final Stage of the PGA TOUR Q-School. This will be his second tournament on the PGA TOUR after having played in the 2024 Houston Open.

4 Raúl Pereda: A native of Córdoba, Veracruz, he has had a consistent career on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and made his PGA TOUR debut in 2024. He recently won the Bajío Open on the Mexican Professional Golf Tour and is qualified for the final stage of Q-School in December.

5 Isidro Benítez: From Puebla and a professional since 2017, he has played multiple seasons on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and recently on PGA TOUR Americas. He qualified for the Second Stage of Q-School 2024 and has participated in six PGA TOUR events, standing out by making his first cut at the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship.

These golfers, with their outstanding performances in local and international tournaments, continue to put Mexico on the map of world golf and advance their careers towards the PGA TOUR.
