Los Cabos will host the Coparmex 2025 National Training Seminar

Coparmex

Los Cabos, the tourist jewel of Baja California Sur, was chosen by the Employers' Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) as the site of its National Training Seminar for 2025, above other destinations in Mexico.

The candidacy of the South Californian municipality was supported by the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), chaired by Rodrigo Esponda, which represented a strong push for this destination to obtain the headquarters of one of the most important Coparmex events at the national level.

It should be noted that the COPARMEX chapter in Los Cabos assumed the responsibility of presenting the candidacy for this destination to be selected as the venue for the event, in a collaborative effort between local businessmen.

Among the attributes evaluated by the business organization, the profile and attractions of the destinations were highlighted; the public and private infrastructure, the hotel capacity and the routes and mobility options, as well as the air connectivity with the entire country.

Once the proposals were evaluated, Los Cabos obtained the absolute majority to host the National Training Seminar, an event that will be held in May 2025 and that will bring together more than 250 businessmen affiliated with Coparmex and their companions.

Rodrigo Esponda, head of FITURCA, said that “it is an honor to have been chosen by Coparmex to host its 2025 National Training Seminar. Our vision for Los Cabos is focused on quality, more than quality, that is why we have 95% satisfaction from the tourists who visit us and that is the level of experience that we will offer to those attending this important event.”

The Coparmex National Training Seminar is an event that takes place every year in which businesswomen and businessmen who are part of the organization are invited, as well as national and international external speakers who offer their perspectives on different topics. In addition, the presidents and directors of the business centers meet to agree on new strategies and plans in economic matters. This event usually includes sessions, conferences, workshops, social events and exhibitions.

Los Cabos is ranked among the top municipal competitiveness places nationwide, according to the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO). It occupies first place in urban areas with less than 500,000 inhabitants, thanks to its ability to attract talent and strategic investments.

Los Cabos is better positioned in terms of competitiveness than other national tourist destinations. It also has extensive connectivity with Mexico and the world: it has air connections with 16 airports in Mexico, 30 in the United States, 11 in Canada and, next November, 1 in Germany.

The Los Cabos International Airport, located 12.8 kilometers north of San José del Cabo and 37 kilometers from Cabo San Lucas, has more than 550 weekly operations, serving 40 destinations, making it one of the best-connected destinations in Mexico and with international source cities.

At the national level, it has connections with the main cities in the country such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Culiacán, Hermosillo, Tijuana, Toluca, León, Cancún, among others. From the United States, it receives operations, mainly from Los Angeles, Dallas and Phoenix. Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver are the main source cities for visitors.

Team Crudo makes history at Bisbee’s Black & Blue with 634-pound Black Marlin catch

Black Marlin catch

With a record-breaking 174 boats participating and a staggering $7 million prize pool, the 44th edition of the Bisbee’s Black & Blue sportfishing tournament held in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, concluded in spectacular fashion. Known as “the richest sportfishing tournament in the world,” the event brought together local and international anglers in a competition that combined skill, endurance, and community spirit.

An epic triumph for Team Crudo

Team Crudo, led by Captain Carlos “Sharluko” Peralta, left an indelible mark on this edition of the tournament by capturing an impressive 634-pound black marlin. This feat, the result of eleven hours of arduous fighting on the high seas, earned them not only first place overall but also a prize of $854,150. The scene at the dock was worthy of a national celebration, with thousands of people chanting the name of the Crudo team and cheering Sharluko and his teammates. With band music and the atmosphere charged with emotion, the giant marlin was brought to the scale amid cheers and applause.

Sharluko, thrilled by the victory, highlighted the value of perseverance, luck and teamwork to achieve such a great triumph. "Winning the Bisbee's is a dream for all captains," said the proud captain, who also highlighted the importance of continuing a long family tradition in sport fishing.

Million-dollar prizes and outstanding teams

This year's competition was not only marked by the Crudo team; other teams also achieved impressive catches and prizes. Among the winners were:

  • Team Hooray, who caught a 450-pound black marlin and won a prize of $1,559,500 by accumulating the "chicks" of the first day of competition.
  • Super Neighbors, with a 561-pound marlin, received a prize of $511,150, placing second.
  • PLC Hookers, who took home $460,500 with a 493-pound black marlin.
  • Primetime, who earned a total of $1,148,400 thanks to a 482-pound black marlin.

Additionally, Team Stella June managed to earn $901,500 for their 439-pound catch, and Sneak Attack took home $800,000 with a 351-pound marlin.

Commitment to sustainability and helping the community

One of the characteristics that distinguishes Bisbee’s Black & Blue is its focus on sustainability and social responsibility. In the “Catch and Release” category, 80% of the fish caught were released, thus contributing to the preservation of marlin species and ensuring the sustainability of the marine ecosystem. In addition, the tournament also stood out for its altruistic spirit, as the blue and black marlins caught and not released were donated to the local association “Ayuda a Cabo.” This donation, which totaled four tons of fish, translated into 47,000 meals for children in vulnerable situations.

A dinner to remember at “The Place At Cabo”

The closing of this iconic edition of the tournament was celebrated with a gala dinner at “The Place At Cabo,” a recently remodeled space that became the center of the final celebration of Bisbee’s. Participants enjoyed a luxurious evening, sharing fishing stories and celebrating triumphs, surrounded by a community that values sport fishing and sustainable tourism.

Record participation and commitment of fishermen

According to figures from the organizers, the 2024 edition of Bisbee’s Black & Blue brought together 1,234 fishermen, who caught a total of 123 marlins, of which 108 were blue and 15 black. This record number of participants reflects the tournament’s worldwide appeal, which year after year attracts fishermen from all over, strengthening not only tourism in Cabo San Lucas but also the local economy.

With a mix of adrenaline, camaraderie and commitment to the community, Bisbee’s Black & Blue continues to establish itself as one of the most outstanding sporting and tourism events in Mexico and the world. The capture of the Crudo team and the delivery of thousands of meals through local organizations reaffirm the value of this tournament, where fishing becomes a driving force for social change and cultural celebration.

Los Cabos, one destination, many Cabos: the evolution of a unique territory

evolucion

Los Cabos is a destination where stories and landscapes converge, recounting centuries of transformation. From the first explorers to the current dynamism, this region stands out for its cultural and natural wealth, each place contributing a unique chapter to its narrative.

The beginning of this story dates back to November 14, 1535, when the iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas was named Cabo California or Punta California. Over time, it was renamed Cabo San Lucas, a site that combines adventure and mystery, where pirates used to stalk the sea routes and sailors sought refuge in its quiet bays.

San José del Cabo, on the other hand, was named in honor of Don José de la Puente y Peña, Marquis of Villapuente de la Peña, who supported the evangelization of the region, through the Pious Fund of the Californias. This place preserves the essence of a traditional Mexican town, with cobblestone streets, art galleries and a colonial atmosphere that invites you to tour its historic center and enjoy its renowned gastronomic offering.

Throughout history, several points in the region have been named "Cabo." Cabo Falso, the southernmost point of the peninsula, is home to a lighthouse that Porfirio Díaz inaugurated on May 5, 1905, as a symbol of sovereignty after the American invasion of previous years. This lighthouse, still standing, safeguards stories of sailors and times gone by.

In the area known locally as "La Costa" and officially as Cabo del Este, there are almost virgin beaches, perfect for those seeking a deep connection with nature. Cabins and glamping options offer an authentic experience, away from the tourist movement, ideal for surfers and explorers who want to discover the more serene side of Los Cabos.

On the other hand, Cabo Pulmo is a marine refuge that houses one of the oldest and most diverse coral reefs in the world. This sanctuary, called “the aquarium of the world” by Jacques Cousteau, is a paradise for divers and an example of conservation and respect for nature.

On April 8, 1980, the municipality of Los Cabos was formally established, uniting all these stories and territories under a single name. Despite their common name, each place retains its own identity: Cabo San Lucas, with its vibrant nightlife and luxurious resorts; San José del Cabo, with its calm artistic and cultural atmosphere; Cabo Pulmo, with its unparalleled marine biodiversity, and Cabo del Este, with its untamed nature.

Los Cabos invites you to explore its many facets, to discover the diversity that inhabits each of its corners. A territory where history, culture and nature intertwine, offering unforgettable experiences for those who venture to discover this extraordinary destination.
