From the Citibanamex Center, in the Miguel Hidalgo mayor's office in Mexico City, the inaugural ceremony was held with the presence of the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as the federal tourism secretary, Miguel Torruco, where governors from Mexico met, accompanied by tourism representatives from each state of the Mexican Republic to start a great demonstration of their tourism offer.

 

Miguel Torruco, Federal Secretary of Tourism: "... the dream that we have always had of holding the Tianguis in the Capital of the Republic has finally come true... we want to break all the records of the other 46 previous editions and show that Mexico City should always have having been considered as a venue as the great tourist powers do... we are going to show that the most popular Tianguis and the Tianguis that will break all historical records will be this 47th edition that will mark the history of tourism in our country”.

Beginning with the XLIX Ordinary Assembly of the Association of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (ASETUR), the head of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy in Baja California Sur, Maribel Collins, accompanied by the governor, Víctor Castro Cosío, addressed issues such as the recovery of tourism in the state after the pandemic, as well as the strengthening of security at the destination, highlighting great advances in air connectivity, since this year historical figures have been exceeded. In addition, a meeting with members of CONAGO was attended, where the South Californian governor expressed great confidence in the arrival of more than 60,000 tourists to the state during Easter, a fact that will leave an economic benefit of more than 95 million dollars.

From March 26 to 29, the South Californian pavilion will have a great presence during the Tianguis Turístico with a delegation of 48 tour operators, hotel representatives and important meetings with the most important airlines in the country; in addition to the fact that both the Los Cabos, La Paz and Loreto Tourism Trust could attend more than 300 business appointments that will further strengthen connectivity this 2023.

In this edition, Mexico City stood out with a 1,000-meter stand, positioning itself as the largest in a city, in addition to the opening of a pavilion for international airlines.

Miguel Torruco, Federal Secretary of Tourism: "we have invited four nations that share the Mayan world with us, there are the ministers of tourism from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, we have the Mayan Train pavilion... about four Invited countries are the states that have benefited from this great investment, more than 20 specialty restaurants, Punto México with a craft exhibition from all over the country and many other surprises.”

Miguel Torruco, Federal Secretary of Tourism, highlighted during the inaugural ceremony of the Tianguis Turístico 2023 that 2022 closed with a collection of 28,016 million dollars in foreign currency in tourism, that is, 14% more than in 2019; In addition, a historical record figure of 3,447 million dollars in foreign direct investment in tourism was achieved, demonstrating an increase of 216% compared to 2019, exceeding the historical maximum in foreign investment of 2017.
