San José Del Cabo, Los Cabos.- Cliserio Mercado, fishing tournament organizer, announced that this year a significant increase is expected in the participation of boats in the prestigious Los Cabos Offshore and Bisbi Black and Blue fishing tournaments.

In a recent conference, Mercado highlighted that the Los Cabos Offshore tournament, which will be held from October 18 to 22, will include two days of registration and two days of fishing. With this structure, they hope to attract about 190 boats and offer prizes worth two million dollars.

On the other hand, for the Bisbi Black and Blue tournament, although last year there was a participation of 200 boats and prizes that reached 11.5 million dollars, this year it is estimated a participation of 210 boats and prizes of 10.5 million dollars.

One of the concerns that arose locally was the capacity of the marina to accommodate all the vessels. Given this, Mercado thanked the support of the Port Captaincy and Sipona, who have provided additional areas for anchoring boats near the Médano restaurants.

However, not everything was celebration during the conference. Mercado warned about an initiative that seeks to open exclusive species for sport fishing to the commercial sector. This proposal, which has been presented on multiple occasions by different administrations, could significantly damage the hotel industry and tourism in the region.

"It is a question of survival of destiny," said Mercado, calling on the community to demonstrate against the initiative, regardless of his political affiliation. He also highlighted the importance of citizen participation in the protection of sport fishing and tourism, vital sectors for the state's economy.

“This is not about colors, it is not about parties, it is a purely social issue that would affect us all equally,” said Cliserio Mercado.
