Six Months to Go Until the 20th Anniversary Edition of the PGA TOUR’s Pioneer Tournament in Mexico, the World Wide Technology Championship

2026 will mark the 20th anniversary of the country’s premier golf tournament

The countdown has begun as the World Wide Technology Championship prepares to celebrate its anniversary with its 20th edition in just six months, when the PGA TOUR returns to Mexico from November 5-8. Once again, Los Cabos and the El Cardonal golf course at Diamante will host 120 of the world’s best professional golfers, showcasing the country and the destination to the world.

“We are honored and grateful to reach this incredible milestone,” commented Joe Mazzeo, Tournament Director. “Two decades of PGA TOUR golf in Mexico for our beloved tournament represent an impressive array of achievements and a significant impact on the sport of golf, as well as on the communities that have hosted us. We plan to celebrate this milestone by hosting our best and most successful event yet this coming November, and we invite everyone to join the fun here at Diamante in Los Cabos.”

The tournament has been a pioneer for golf in Mexico and Latin America since its inception in 2007, when its first edition was played in the Riviera Maya – Cancun region; and it has led the way ever since. In 2023, of course, the event moved to Mexico’s premier golf destination, Los Cabos. Each year, the tournament has brought together PGA TOUR greats and provided many memorable moments, including inaugural champion Fred Funk in 2007, Viktor Hovland's back-to-back victories in 2020 and 2021, and defending champion Ben Griffin, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

While 2026 marks a key milestone as the tournament celebrates its 20th edition, various figures illustrate the impact the event has had on the sport of golf in Mexico. Including this year, the tournament will have distributed more than $118 million in prize money, more than any other tournament in Latin American history. Throughout its 19 editions, 33 Mexican players have competed, making a total of 95 appearances in the tournament. Since 2007, a total of 544,591 strokes have been taken by tournament participants. And once again, the global television broadcast will reach more than 220 countries and territories through 44 digital and broadcast channels in 26 different languages.

This year, the WWT Championship will once again deliver a week full of action and excitement. Beyond the four rounds of professional competition, multiple Pro-Ams will be held, giving sponsors, VIPs, and amateur golfers the opportunity to play alongside the professionals. The festivities begin on Monday, November 2, with the Kick-off Pro-Am and continue with the El Cardonal and Dunes Pro-Ams on November 4. Another highlight is the Oasis Short Am benefiting the First Tee of Diamante, which brings together PGA TOUR professionals with young golfers to raise funds for this inspiring program that aims to introduce the game of golf and its values to young people who might not otherwise have access to the sport.

In addition to the Pro-Ams, a series of special events also stand out during tournament week at the WWT Championship. As is tradition, the Junior Golf Clinic will be held on Saturday, November 7, providing an opportunity for all children attending the tournament to interact with PGA TOUR golfers and practice their swing. “Golf is Gourmet” returns in 2026 after its successful debut last year, once again bringing together VIP guests with PGA TOUR professionals and renowned local chefs for an intimate and exclusive culinary experience. The fitness bootcamp with Modu, live music, the Fan Zone, and much more make every day of tournament week an opportunity to create unforgettable memories and experiences.

Last but not least, the WWT Championship will once again offer an attractive array of hospitality and ticket options to enjoy the professional competition. From private VIP suites to shared hospitality spaces, there truly are options for everyone who wants to experience the PGA TOUR in style. Tickets go on sale later this summer.
