Innovation and facilitation set the agenda for GAP’s 15th Civil Aviation Security Symposium

• The event brings together authorities, international bodies, specialists, and companies to analyze the industry’s new challenges.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) inaugurated its 15th Civil Aviation Security Symposium under the theme “Beyond Control: Innovation in Civil Aviation Security and Facilitation.” The gathering focuses on knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration among various industry stakeholders to address emerging security challenges.

A central theme of the symposium is facilitation—defined as the coordination between authorities and organizations to streamline airport processes and prevent unnecessary delays in passenger, baggage, and cargo flows. While aviation security and facilitation have distinct objectives, they complement one another: the former seeks protection against acts of unlawful interference, while the latter aims to expedite processes in compliance with applicable regulations.

In this context, innovation and technology serve as tools to strengthen security processes while simultaneously reducing times, improving flow, and contributing to more efficient airport operations.

During the opening ceremony, Martín Zazueta Chávez, GAP’s Director of Airports and Regulated Business, acknowledged that aviation security is a shared responsibility: “The challenges facing our industry require increasingly close coordination among authorities, airports, airlines, international bodies, and specialized companies. None of us can face these challenges in isolation; collaboration and knowledge sharing are fundamental to continued progress.”

The opening event was attended by Emilio Avendaño García, Director General of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC). Over the course of the two-day event, national and international specialists will address topics such as detection algorithms, AVSEC experiences at Asian airports, data analytics applied to security services, innovation in baggage handling systems (BHS), and risk management; the program also includes a panel dedicated to lessons learned by Mexican airports during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Across fifteen editions, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico has promoted this symposium as a forum for strengthening the exchange of experiences and best practices among various stakeholders in civil aviation security, incorporating national and international perspectives to help address the challenges of a constantly evolving industry.
