The Spaniard arrives as the second seed at the ATP 250 after outstanding performances in Delray Beach, Acapulco, and Wimbledon.

Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, currently number 27 in the world, returns to Mexico motivated to win his first professional title, this time at the Los Cabos Open, an ATP 250 tournament, where he is seeded second, behind only Russian Andrey Rublev.

After reaching the finals of Delray Beach and the ATP 500 in Acapulco this year, Davidovich is looking to consolidate a strong year with a trophy on Mexican soil. His most recent appearance was at Wimbledon, where he advanced to the third round. Now he arrives at the Los Cabos tournament looking to adapt to the hard courts, high temperatures, and time zone differences, ahead of his upcoming matches in Toronto, Cincinnati, and the US Open.

In the official draw for the tournament, held recently, it was determined that the Malaga native will debut in the second round, where he will face the winner of the duel between Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (world number 123) and Australian James Duckworth (103).

If he advances according to the draw, Davidovich would face Australian Adam Walton in the quarterfinals, and in a hypothetical semifinal, Canadian Denis Shapovalov (ATP ranking number 30). Frenchman Halys Quentin (46) is also among the tournament’s standout players, having lost at the last minute to two important figures: Italian Lorenzo Musetti, world number seven, and Australian Jordan Thompson.

This 2024, Davidovich has come close to glory in two finals. In Acapulco, he fell to Czech Tomas Machac 7-6(6), 6-2, while in Delray Beach he was defeated by Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic. However, the Spaniard has demonstrated constant improvement in his game, especially on fast surfaces.

With a total purse of $889,890, the Los Cabos Open has established itself as one of the most attractive tournaments on the ATP 250 circuit, thanks to its hospitality, organization, and player quality. In previous editions, the tournament has hosted stars such as Daniil Medvedev, who lifted the trophy in 2022 as world number one.

Other champions of the tournament include Croatian Ivo Karlovic, American Sam Querrey, Italian Fabio Fognini, Argentine Diego Schwartzman, British Cameron Norrie, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Jordan Thompson himself in 2023.

This year, with an open field and a notable generation of talents seeking recognition, Los Cabos could witness the first major title for the talented Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
