World Wide Technology Championship Celebrates Two Decades of PGA TOUR History in Mexico

The World Wide Technology Championship is preparing to celebrate a historic edition. Twenty years after becoming the first official PGA TOUR event held outside the United States and Canada, the tournament returns to Los Cabos to celebrate two decades of professional golf in Mexico.

From November 5 to 8, the tournament will return for the fourth consecutive year to El Cardonal at Diamante—the first course designed by Tiger Woods—where 120 PGA TOUR players will compete in a 72-hole championship as part of the FedExCup season.

Since its debut in 2007, the World Wide Technology Championship has witnessed great champions, memorable moments, and an evolution that has mirrored the growth of professional golf in Mexico. What began as a pioneering tournament has grown into one of Mexico’s most important international sporting events. Over the course of two decades, the championship has hosted some of the world’s best players, fostered the growth of golf in Mexico and Latin America, and left a legacy that transcends the competition itself.

Throughout its 20-year history, the World Wide Technology Championship has demonstrated that its impact extends far beyond golf. The tournament has generated over $4 million in charitable contributions and brought together thousands of volunteers, partners, and organizations that have helped build its legacy in Mexico.

Since arriving in Los Cabos in 2023, the tournament has strengthened its commitment to the local community and become a major driver of economic activity for the destination. Producing an event of this magnitude generates significant economic impact through the hiring of local suppliers and service providers, as well as through spending by attendees and participants visiting the area.

In addition to this direct impact, the championship generates valuable international promotion for Los Cabos. Through the PGA TOUR’s global coverage, the tournament showcases the destination’s tourism offerings, landscapes, and world-class infrastructure to audiences worldwide, helping to strengthen its standing as a premier international destination for golf and luxury tourism.

“Reaching our twentieth edition is an achievement we share with everyone who has been part of this tournament over the years,” said Joe Mazzeo, Tournament Director. “We are incredibly proud of what we have built and especially grateful to the fans, sponsors, players, volunteers, suppliers, media, and—above all—the communities that have made it possible. Over these two decades, we have seen the tournament and its impact grow far beyond the golf course. We are thrilled to celebrate this anniversary here at home: Los Cabos, the best golf destination in Latin America.”

“Celebrating 20 years of PGA TOUR history in Mexico—and doing so once again from Los Cabos—confirms the significance this championship has gained for our destination. Golf is a strategic sector for Los Cabos due to its ability to attract high-value travelers and showcase our tourism offerings internationally. The global exposure generated by the World Wide Technology Championship allows us to highlight the quality of our courses, our infrastructure, and the experiences that set the destination apart through a world-class event, while also generating benefits for the tourism value chain and the local community,” noted Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board (FITURCA).

All four rounds will be televised and distributed globally via the PGA TOUR’s extensive network, including Golf Channel in the United States and Golf Channel Latin America in Mexico and across Latin America. Internationally, PGA TOUR coverage reaches more than 220 countries and territories in 26 languages through 44 broadcast and digital partners.

The celebration of the twentieth edition will extend beyond the golf course. During tournament week, fans can enjoy a variety of experiences that combine world-class golf with the energy and style of Los Cabos, including hospitality options, dining, live music, sponsor activations, and family-friendly activities.
