Shapovalov Conquers Los Cabos and Adds His Fourth ATP Title

Canadian Denis Shapovalov, world number 33 and third seed, was crowned champion of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo after defeating American Aleksandar Kovacevic (ATP No. 76, seventh seed) 6-4, 6-2 in just one hour and 15 minutes of play.
Having had a perfect week in his tournament debut, Shapovalov didn’t drop a single set throughout the entire tournament and displayed his best form on the hard courts of the Cabo Sports Complex at this ATP 250 tournament, which awards $873,000 in prize money.
From the start of the match, the Canadian imposed his will. With a precise return and great mobility, he broke Kovacevic’s serve in the first game of the match and quickly went 2-0 up. Although the American improved as the points progressed, he was unable to recover that break, and Shapovalov took the first set in 38 minutes.
“I started with a lot of energy, and after 2-0, I realized where I was. I calmed down a bit and was happy to be able to hold my serve. Afterwards, I struggled to return serve,” the Canadian commented after the match.
In the second set, history repeated itself: Shapovalov broke Kovacevic’s serve in the first game and consolidated with authority. Although the American had a break opportunity, he failed to convert it, and the Canadian regained the lead with a second break to seal the final 6-2.
The statistics confirmed the Canadian’s superiority, who in the second set achieved 88% of points won on his first serve, compared to Kovacevic’s 57%. He also increased his serving efficiency to 77%, while his opponent’s dropped to 54%. “I was happy to win the first set and kept the momentum going in the second. I missed a few break points early on, but I was able to break and then had some good games. I’m very happy with the match I played,” Shapovalov added.
With this victory, Shapovalov wins his fourth career ATP title. He previously won in Stockholm (2019), Belgrade (2024), and Dallas (2025). His victory in Los Cabos represents a significant boost in a season in which he has regained the form that has taken him into the top 10 in previous years.
