Los Cabos Cortés Open 2026: A Sporting EventThat Crosses Borders
A press conference was held to present the 4th edition of the “Los Cabos Cortés Open 2026,” an open water swimming event that has grown exponentially since its first edition, establishing itself as one of the most anticipated sporting competitions in the region. This year, the tournament will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, at Palmilla Beach and will feature the participation of more than 500 swimmers from all over Mexico and abroad.
A Competition in Constant Growth
Yair Peña, the event director, highlighted how the Cortés Open has evolved organically, positioning itself as a benchmark in the national and international sporting arena. “We have more than 500 confirmed swimmers registered who will be coming in May to participate in this competition. This is the 4th edition,” Peña stated. Furthermore, she detailed that participants can compete in four categories: 1.3 kilometers, three kilometers, five kilometers, and seven kilometers.
Peña emphasized the safety measures that will ensure competitors can fully enjoy the experience. “The entire course is perfectly marked with buoys, and we have aquatic support, both from boats and personnel in the water. We want the swimmers to enjoy themselves, but also to be completely safe,” she added.
Boosting Sports Tourism in Los Cabos
The Director of Municipal Tourism, Ana Gabriela Navarro, underscored the importance of the event for the region. “This event means a lot to Los Cabos; it helps us continue promoting sports tourism. They not only come to practice sports, but they also bring their families and friends who also enjoy Los Cabos as a tourist destination,” she commented.
Navarro highlighted that the economic and promotional impact of the event is significant, encouraging more international visitors to consider Los Cabos as an ideal place for sporting activities. Beyond the Competition
The Los Cabos Cortés Open will not only focus on swimming, but will offer a complete experience for participants and spectators. There will be additional events such as a welcome cocktail reception, a kit distribution expo, a series of conferences with special guests, and the highly anticipated awards ceremony.
Furthermore, Elton Olachea, director of the Municipal Sports Institute (INDEM), expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s growth and the goal of exceeding 1,000 swimmers in future editions. “It’s an event that started locally and is now crossing borders. I would like us to surpass 1,000 participants next year,” he stated.
Commitment to Safety
Safety will be a priority throughout the event, as indicated by representatives from Civil Protection, ZOFEMAT (Federal Maritime Land Zone Authority), and other local agencies. Francisco Cota, director of Civil Protection for Los Cabos, assured that a robust emergency plan will be implemented and that they will coordinate closely with the other agencies involved. Iván Fuentes, ZOFEMAT’s operational coordinator, indicated that there will be four lifeguards, jet ski support, and ground patrols to ensure a safe environment.
Meanwhile, José Luis Gutiérrez, director of the Los Cabos Youth Institute (INJUVE), acknowledged the excellent organization and logistics that will allow them to break municipal and state records. “This event is a clear example of success thanks to good planning,” he stated.
Hospitality and Logistics
The Cortés Open also has the support of local businesses such as the Hampton Inn & Suites hotel, whose general manager, Luis Miranda, highlighted the strategic location of the complex, situated near Palmilla Beach. He also mentioned that there will be special transportation to facilitate the mobility of participants on the day of the event, thus reinforcing comfort and accessibility.
