Latin American Dominance at the Return of IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos 2026

After a three-year absence, the shores of Baja California Sur once again vibrated with the intensity of IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos. The eighth edition of this event, held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, culminated in a sporting celebration where Latin American talent dominated the top steps of the podium, under conditions marked by high temperatures and an exceptional level of competition.

In the men’s category, Argentinian Mateo Bustos emerged as the day’s big winner. In what represented his first official participation on Mexican soil, Bustos stopped the clock at 4 hours, 14 minutes, and 43 seconds, demonstrating an impressive pace, especially during the running leg. The men’s podium was completed by Giacomo Mevio, who secured second place with a time of 4:20:12, followed closely by Anel Acosta, who finished in 4:20:16 to take third place after a tight battle in the final kilometers.

Meanwhile, the women’s race delivered one of the most emotional moments of the tournament. Mexican Amalia Sánchez took the overall victory, crossing the finish line with an official time of 4 hours, 47 minutes, and 21 seconds. For Sánchez, this triumph meant a return to glory in Los Cabos, as she had previously been crowned champion on this same course nine years ago, in 2017. She was joined on the podium by Daniela Tirado, with a time of 5:07:09, and María Fraga, who finished in third place with a time of 5:10:32.

The event brought together more than 1,300 athletes from 40 countries, reaffirming Los Cabos as a world-class destination for sports tourism. Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez emphasized that this edition not only celebrates the physical effort of the participants but also significantly boosts the municipality’s global profile and economic impact, solidifying the return of this prestigious franchise to the region.
