Los Cabos: A Living Classroom Where Children Connect with the Biodiversity of Baja California Sur
“The family-friendly side of Los Cabos isn’t just about entertainment; it’s also about environmental awareness and artistic appreciation through recreation,” notes Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of FITURCA.
The children’s offerings combine environmental education with activities that stimulate creativity, such as art workshops, outdoor movies, plays, and activities that promote Mexican traditions.
Historically, Los Cabos has been marketed as a destination for adults: world-class golf courses and cuisine, luxury spas, beaches where the desert meets the sea, and a variety of sports to enjoy. But it’s also a recreational space for children.
Perhaps like no other place in Mexico, Los Cabos is a living classroom where children and teenagers can learn about the biodiversity of Baja California Sur without missing a minute of fun.
“The family-friendly side of Los Cabos isn’t just about entertainment; it’s also about environmental awareness and artistic appreciation through leisure activities for the whole family,” says Rodrigo Esponda, CEO of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA).
Whale Watching
For example, Ambassadors of the Environment is a program at Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, designed for all ages, that invites visitors to discover the natural world through direct exploration.
Los Cabos is the main whale sanctuary in Mexico and one of the most important on the continent. During whale season, which runs from October to March, hotels like Zadún, among others, use hydrophones so that children can not only observe these giants of the sea but also hear them underwater.
The Art of Having Fun
Other properties, such as Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes, offer weekly recreational programs that blend fun with creativity. Their activities range from indoor and outdoor games and piñata making to origami sessions and cooking classes, ensuring a diverse offering to stimulate children’s artistic sensibilities.
Anima Village, for example, features the Kids Creative Workshop, a space to foster children’s creativity, as well as outdoor movie and theater screenings. They also offer giant bubble sessions and live music on Sundays.
At The Villa Group Beach Resorts & Spas, the offerings combine creativity with the energy of the aquatic environment. Villa Del Palmar stands out for its new activity pool, which includes a water play area known as a splash pad, ideal for the little ones, in addition to daily craft workshops.
In Los Cabos, the fun extends beyond the coast. Villa Del Palmar and Villa del Arco offer tours on the Buccaneer Queen pirate ship to the iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas, combining dinner, music, dancing, and learning about the marine environment.
They’re sure to have fun.
In Los Cabos, visitor safety is a top priority. The Villa Group hotels have certified first aid staff for children at their Kids Clubs and lifeguards trained in water rescue at the beach and pool areas.
In addition, properties such as Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes, Anima Village, and The Villa Group resorts offer on-site medical services or specialized medical staff to ensure parents’ peace of mind.
Finally, so adults can enjoy experiences as a couple, such as the spa or romantic dinners, both Villa La Valencia and Villa Del Palmar offer certified childcare services (at an additional cost), making the trip a complete wellness experience for the whole family.
“Los Cabos is a destination that proves every day that it is an epicenter of luxury and guaranteed fun in equal measure. By connecting children with the biodiversity of Baja California Sur in a playful and educational way, we are training the future guardians of the biodiversity of Baja California Sur and the country,” says Esponda Cascajares.
