Los Cabos expands its domestic air network, reaching 17 direct routes
FITURCA announces a new direct connection between Los Cabos and Cancún, operated by Volaris, launching on December 1, 2026, with three weekly flights.
• Between January and June 2026, Los Cabos welcomed 21,146 tourists from Cancún, a 6.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Los Cabos continues to strengthen its domestic air connectivity with the addition of a new direct Cancún–Los Cabos route, operated by Volaris, which will begin service on December 1, 2026.
The new connection will operate three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—using Airbus A321 aircraft with a capacity of 186 passengers. Flights will depart from Cancún at 10:30 a.m. and arrive in Los Cabos at 12:16 p.m.
This operation will provide the capacity to transport up to 26,784 passengers annually, expanding travel options between two of Mexico’s premier tourist destinations and bolstering Los Cabos’ connectivity with the country’s southeast.
The announcement comes amidst market growth. Between January and June 2026, Los Cabos received 21,146 tourists from Cancún, compared to the 19,874 recorded during the same period in 2025—an increase of approximately 6.4%. “The launch of the direct route between Cancún and Los Cabos marks a significant step in strengthening our connectivity within Mexico. With this new connection, we reach a total of 17 direct domestic routes, expanding travel options to the destination from various regions across the country,” noted Rodrigo Esponda, Director General of the Los Cabos Tourism Board (FITURCA).
“Cancún has historically been a key source market for travelers visiting Los Cabos indirectly, with an average of around 30,000 tourists annually. Having a direct flight now will allow us to facilitate these travel flows, meet existing demand, and create new opportunities to further develop this market,” Esponda added.
Enhanced connectivity between Los Cabos and the domestic market
The new route will expand options for travelers from southeastern Mexico while opening up new connectivity possibilities between the Mexican Caribbean and the Baja California Peninsula.
“With this new direct route between Cancún and Los Cabos, we continue to strengthen our domestic network and facilitate access to two of Mexico’s most important tourist destinations.” “The growth we have observed in traveler demand between the two destinations confirms a clear opportunity to further expand our connectivity; at Volaris, we remain committed to bringing more regions of the country closer together through direct flights and affordable fares,” said Jorge García, Director of Market Development, Distribution, and Cargo at Volaris.
Through Volaris, Los Cabos currently offers domestic connections to the Bajío region, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Mexicali, Culiacán, Toluca, Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), Mexico City, and Puebla, with Cancún set to be added in December.
The addition of this route is part of efforts to diversify domestic source markets and expand air service to Los Cabos, facilitating access to the destination from various regions across the country.
Tickets for the new Cancún–Los Cabos route are available for purchase starting September 3, 2026, with operations scheduled to begin on December 1, 2026.
