The twenty-first edition of the Los Cabos Billfish Sport Fishing Tournament 2019 started as scheduled, organized by the Los Cabos Hotel Association it marks the beginning of the high season for this tourist destination.

Enrique Fernández Del Castillo, Billfish Organizing Committee: “Today, the high season begins with this fishing tournament, it’s a tournament promoting sport fishing and it’s the first one of the season. This is the 21^st edition and with it the strong economic activity of Los Cabos begins.”

Eduardo Regules, Marketing Director of FITURCA: “This year more than 50 boats are participating in the Billfish tournament, and it’s one of the highest number of boats there has been, it’s three days of tournament fishing and the purse is at $700 thousand dollars.”

Enrique Fernández Del Castillo of the Organizing Committee, Eduardo Regules FITURCA Marketing Director, José Basurto Cabo San Lucas Port Captain and other authorities were responsible for giving the starting shot for the tournament.

It should be noted that during this tournament the “catch and release” mode is promoted

Eduardo Regules, Marketing Director of FITURCA: “The sustainability of the destination is one of the most important things to things about, so, not all species come out and killed, there are species that are in a special modality to be fished, filmed, documented and the fish of the species are returned to the sea.”

Enrique Fernández Del Castillo, Billfish Organizing Committee: “We were the first tournament that included the catch and release modality. Why? Because it’s how you make an asset become a renewable and a sustainable resource. It must be remembered that for every sport fishing boat five direct jobs are created as well as ten indirect jobs.”

The high season concludes in the month of March 2020.
