Whales in Los Cabos
Whales in Los Cabos
Like every year, whale watching, and especially humpbacks, is a natural spectacle near the coast of Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.
Miguel Angel Noriega- Provider of tourist services: “here we can observe different species on this side of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez… we can observe humpback whales, gray whales, fin whales….”
It is approximately three months when the gray whales approach the three sanctuaries on the west coast of Baja California Sur in Guerrero Negro, San Ignacio and the lagoons of Bahía Magdalena to mate some and give birth to their calves others, so in these dates arrive first in Los Cabos, the humpbacks.
Miguel Angel Noriega- Provider of tourist services: "... from December 15 to April 15, the truth is the best time of year to come, the weather is super pleasant .."
Visitors get excited when humpbacks jump or hit the surface with their gigantic flippers.
Donne, South African Tourist: “Absolutely amazing, super informative and we got to see whales near the boat, dolphins and sea lions, it was amazing, beautiful…”
Paola Becker, CDMX Tourist: "... I think it was like the fourth or fifth time but it is the closest time I have seen them, they went to the boat we could almost play them, they cannot be played obviously out of respect for them but almost We could caress them, we saw the jet to the side, they passed under the boat, you can see the white of the fins from below ... "
It is very important to follow the indications of the captains and guides of the boats so that you can have a close encounter.
Santiago Margalet, Promoter Activities: "... approach in a respectful way with them so as not to be disturbing them and because each whale behaves differently… So each whale has a different personality, there are some that are more curious, others more timid, and Well, obviously today we were lucky to have some super curious whales and that they came very close to the boat..."
According to the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas this season whale watching is exceeding last season.
