Los Cabos International Airport breaks record in passenger arrivals in the first half of 2023
The Advisory Commission of the Los Cabos International Airport presented the results of the first semester of 2023 regarding passenger traffic, a figure that has exceeded 4 million passengers, being 1 million and a half nationals and more than 2 million 600 thousand foreigners, which means a growth of 16% compared to the first six months of 2022.
Raúl Revueltas, GAP CEO: “May 2023 vs. May 2019, that is, before the pandemic the number of seats at the destination grew by 28%, that is not something that happens in almost any airport in the world, it is very unique and the big issue is that these seats have been maintained; The great growth occurred when we were in the midst of the pandemic when the Caribbean was closed to the United States... basically the United States began to use Los Cabos as a safe destination, so the incredible thing is that today with the competition one hundred percent open, traffic It has remained"
In addition, it was announced that an investment of 995 million pesos has currently been carried out to continue with the modernization works and improvements in the terminals, as well as in the airfield, as explained by Raúl Revueltas, with short-term actions to improve the conditions of the Airport due to the high arrival of passengers that Los Cabos has received.
Such is the case of the expansion of Terminal 2 and the Last Waiting Room (SUE) of Terminal 1, which will grow 903m2, that is, 84% more than the current area.
Raúl Revueltas, general director of GAP: "in terms of area we have growth that will start in August... we have to think that in airports we always build with a 15-year vision, so this growth is not the long-term growth that the terminal requires, it is a growth that we are developing to be able to continue serving the people who are arriving but in our next plan for this investment we will present it next year and we have to make a major investment”
On the other hand, the permanent GAP BLUE program was announced, which offers care tools at airports according to the levels of assistance for passengers who have a disability before, during and after their trip.
Added to these actions is the collaboration that Grupo GAP has maintained with Teletón in terms of training and, of course, the work of Fundación GAP, which today has granted scholarships to 420 students from Los Cabos and 1,223 around the country, added to the efforts of the Community Training Centers that have fought against the educational gap.
Alejandra Soto Ayech, IR/Social Responsibility Officer: "It is a great initiative and there have been quite impressive results with this Foundation, in the last 5 years they have donated more than 300 million pesos to the foundation to achieve these objectives... this year the donation It was 750 million pesos in addition to the 300 that we carried"
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) operates in 12 international airports in Mexico and two in Jamaica, providing service to 350 destinations through 37 airlines. It should be noted that in 2022 GAP reached 56.7 passengers, the largest number in its history.
