The Mexican Santiago González takes the doubles title at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo
The Mexican Santiago González and the Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, first seeds, defeated the German Dominik Koepfer and the Australian Andrew Harris to lift the doubles title of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo held this week in Los Cabos.
The Mexican and the French prevailed 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 23 minute match to reach their third title of the year after the Masters 1000 titles in Miami and Marseille.
After the triumph in the ATP 250 in Los Cabos, González joined his compatriots Miguel Ángel Reyes Varela, who won in 2018 together with the Salvadoran Marcelo Arévalo, and Hans Hach Verdugo, who together with the American John Isner were champions in 2021.
The first set was decided in favor of the winners as they broke their opponents in the third game and then defended their serves to make it 3-1. Then both couples kept their serve until they reached 6-4.
In the second set, the break for González and Vasselin also came in the third game and they reached a 5-4 lead, but the German and the Australian broke for 5-5. González and Vasselin recovered the break and defended their serve for 7-5.
“(Winning the title in Mexico) was something I had nailed down and it was good to get it today, it was a dream come true with the help of Edouard. We did a good job at the end of the day and we leave very happy. I am very happy to finally win trophy number 21 at home and to continue having a great year”, said González after the match.
