Bisbee’s Black and Blue Tournament Begins in Los Cabos with a Message of Solidarity and Commitment
In an event that marks the beginning of the high season in Los Cabos and that represents an important attraction for Baja California Sur, the Bisbee's Black and Blue and Offshore Tournaments were carried out with enthusiasm and commitment, despite the recent challenges that the region has faced.
The starting shot of the tournament, which attracted more than 230 boats and presented a prize pool that exceeded 11 million dollars, not only celebrated the passion for sport fishing, but also sent a message of solidarity towards those affected by the recent Hurricane Norma and those in Guerrero, like Acapulco, who have faced difficult times due to natural phenomena.
Deputy Marco Almendaris Puppo, present at the event, highlighted the importance of preserving tourist fishing in the Baja California Sur region. He emphasized the need to protect sport fishing species, such as dorado, and emphasized that this industry generates an essential economic benefit for the local community, from captains to restaurants and surrounding businesses.
In support of this cause, an initiative is promoted to constitutionally protect species destined for sport fishing and maintain their current status, which has been in force since 1972. The practice of "catch and release" is also promoted, in which species are returned to the sea after capture, following successful examples in other countries, such as the United States.
Martín Inzunza, from FONMAR, also highlighted the importance of sport fishing and the conservation of marlin species in the region. He mentioned the promotion of sport fishing throughout the state of Baja California Sur, including the north of the entity, through promotion tournaments and activities that have contributed to the growth of this industry.
Carlos Castro, representative of the governor, pointed out that the start of Bisbee's Black and Blue and Offshore is a moment of celebration for Los Cabos and an indicator of the high season. He also expressed solidarity with those affected by Hurricane Norma and stressed the importance of keeping this tournament in the region.
The Mayor of Los Cabos, Oscar Leggs Castro, alluding to the challenges that the local community has faced after Norma, highlighted the importance of Bisbee's as a flagship event for Los Cabos that attracts global attention. He also spoke about the ongoing cleanup and reconstruction in the city and the need to help those facing similar misfortunes elsewhere.
Cliserio Mercado, the organizer of the Sport Fishing Tournaments, highlighted that, for the first time, the "Bisbee's Black and Blue" and "Los Cabos Offshore" tournaments will be held simultaneously. This decision was made due to the passage of Hurricane "Norma". Together, these tournaments have prizes worth $9,300,000.00 and $2,200,000.00, respectively.
In relation to the Estero San José del Cabo, the opening of the mouth and the necessary measures to maintain its cleanliness and protect the ecosystem were discussed.
This start of the Bisbee’s Black and Blue and Offshore Tournament not only marks the beginning of an exciting sport fishing season in Los Cabos, but also highlights the solidarity and commitment of the local community in the face of the challenges it has faced. With a clear message of conservation and responsibility, Los Cabos is preparing to welcome fishermen and enthusiasts from around the world in an event that highlights the resilient spirit of the region.
