Success at IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos: Athletes from all over the world participate in an exciting event
The seventh edition of the prestigious IRONMAN 70.3, which took place in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, brought together 1,300 athletes from 46 countries. The sporting event began on the picturesque Palmilla beach and attracted a crowd of enthusiastic spectators, as well as journalists from national and international media who extensively covered the tournament. Ian Giles, originally from South Africa but residing in Mexico, shared his excitement about participating in the IRONMAN. "It's my second year. I did it last year. I live in El Sargento, I've been there for two years and I love Mexico. It's the best country in the world," he said. Giles expressed his desire to improve his performance this year and aim for a time of five and a half hours. In addition, he highlighted the organization of the event and his love for Mexico. In the men's category, first place was won by the American Jason West, who completed the competition with an impressive time of 3 hours, 43 minutes and 4 seconds. He was followed by Marc Dubrick of the United States in second place, with a time of 3 hours, 47 minutes and 51 seconds. Third place went to Canadian Jackson Laundry, who completed the test in 3 hours, 51 minutes and 6 seconds. Karina Garza, originally from León, Guanajuato, shared her experience at the IRONMAN in Los Cabos. "It's great to be able to compete in your own country and even more so in places as cool as this," she commented. Despite this being her second IRONMAN in Mexico, her main objective was to enjoy the event to the fullest and give her best. She highlighted the beauty of the location, where "you find beach and desert at the same time." In the women's category, Canadian Paula Findlay stood out by taking first place with a time of 4 hours, 9 minutes and 50 seconds. In second place was the Austrian Lisa Perterer, with a time of 4 hours, 14 minutes and 46 seconds. Third place went to Sara Pérez Sala of Spain, who completed the event in 4 hours, 20 minutes and 55 seconds. This exciting contest, which received extensive international media coverage, left an estimated economic impact of approximately 65 million pesos, consolidating Los Cabos as a top-level sports tourism destination. Martin Morales, a participant who resides in Morelos, highlighted his preparation for the IRONMAN. "Since February, I've been training basically. Since it's my first, I'd just like to finish it. I'm happy with that, but if I do between six and a half, seven hours, I'm perfect with that," he shared. He also mentioned that he planned to continue participating in future IRONMANs, with Cozumel in his mind as one of his possible destinations.
