The Minister Counselor of Consular Affairs at the Embassy of the United States in Mexico, Amber Baskette, presented a recognition to the Government of Los Cabos for its outstanding work and support to the American community residing in the municipality.
The recognition was received by Nohemí Romero Guzmán, who heads the Municipal Coordination for Attention to Foreign Residents. Along with the Municipal Coordination, Jorge Ramírez Vélez, representative of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), and Lilzi Orcí Fregoso, executive president of the Association of Hotels of Los Cabos, were also recognized.
The Municipal Coordination for Attention to Foreign Residents provides various supports and procedures before municipal, state and federal authorities. Among the services, procedures such as driver's licenses, construction permits, and obtaining the National Institute for Older Adults (INAPAM) credential stand out. In addition, they offer support in cases related to the electric power service, complaints to the Tourist Assistance Center (CATAC), and the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO).
The coordination also provides advice in cases of evictions and problems with the Public Prosecutor's Office, all free of charge. To improve communication with people who do not speak Spanish, the chat "Whatsapping for Your Safety" was implemented, which includes commanders of the General Directorate of Public Security, Preventive Police and Municipal Traffic, as well as rescue and emergency bodies.
According to data from the National Migration Institute (INM), as of January 30, 2024, 14,933 foreign people reside in Los Cabos, of which approximately 10,050 are of American origin, which represents the largest foreign population in the municipality.
