World Wide Technology Championship to Offer Multiple Options to Qualify and Compete in Annual PGA TOUR Event
Registration is now open for the Monday Open Qualifier, the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental and the Mexico Match Play, all of which will be held in Los Cabos.
Los Cabos, Mexico (August 26, 2024) – Registration is now open for those who dream of playing in an official PGA TOUR event. The World Wide Technology Championship will host three different qualifying tournaments this fall, which will add up to a total of six positions to play in the annual FedExCup event. Commemorating its 18th anniversary as the PGA TOUR event with the longest tradition and history in Mexico, the WWT Championship will once again offer different qualifying options exclusive to Mexican players, in addition to the Monday Open Qualifier. Tournament officials, in conjunction with the PGA TOUR and the PGA Southern California Section, have announced that the Monday Open Qualifier will be held on November 4 in Los Cabos, at the Arroyo/Mountain Course at Palmilla Golf Club. In keeping with PGA TOUR tradition, the four players who win the Monday Open Qualifier will earn their spot in the 120-player field.
In addition, Diamante will welcome the best Mexican players for the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental and the Mexico Match Play. Both events are exclusively for Mexican players and are part of the WWT Championship's commitment to support golf in Mexico, and Mexican professional and amateur players who aspire to compete at the highest levels in golf. As has been a tradition for 10 years, the two qualifying events for Mexican players will take place from October 7 to 9 at El Cardonal Golf Course in Diamante.
“We are pleased to be able to offer various avenues for talented golfers to earn a spot to compete in our FedExCup event,” said Joe Mazzeo, Tournament Director. “Every week the best golfers in the world compete on the PGA TOUR, and we are proud to offer different routes for various players to participate in the most important golf circuit,” he said.
The call is open to all professional and amateur players who meet the established handicap requirements. The Monday Qualifier will feature an approximate field of 72 players. Those who do not have an exemption must participate in one of the pre-qualifying events, three of which will be played in Southern California on October 30 and 31, and one in Los Cabos on November 1. Players can obtain more information or submit their registration request at the following link: www.wwtchampionship.com/MondayQualifier.
On October 7, the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental will grant the first exemption to the tournament, after a 27-hole stroke play, which is exclusively for Mexican professionals and amateurs. Those golfers who finish in positions 2 through 17 in stroke play will continue to the Mexico Match Play. This being its fourth year in this format, the Mexico Match Play is a two-day, direct elimination tournament between 16 players, with the winner earning an exemption to participate in the WWT Championship.
