The Los Cabos International Film Festival: Film Encounters is back with a renewed vision and new experiences, from December 4 to 8, 2024

FICLC 2024 1

We are back with a transformed proposal, new ideas, new places and great experiences. This 2024 we invite you to experience the Los Cabos International Film Festival: Film Encounters, from December 4 to 8.

This year we will expand our horizons to San José del Cabo, which will be integrated as a new venue for film exhibitions and activities in unique spaces such as Crania, the Wirikuta botanical park, Hotel El Ganzo, Casa Ballena and Plaza Mijares; in addition to maintaining a presence at our traditional headquarters at Cinemex Puerto Paraíso, located in Cabo San Lucas. After having toured the screens of the most important festivals in the world, two international films will be in charge of making us live the cinematic experience during the opening and closing of the Festival, respectively, framed by magical and emblematic spaces of the region that will exalt the relevance of the premieres in Mexico of these cinematographic works.

Mexican cinema will be the protagonist of this year's film program. A vibrant selection of national titles will fill the screens of the Festival. These screenings will be accompanied by their directors, giving space to an organic interaction between the creators and the audience.

Our Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund will focus on the new voices of cinema in Mexico. On this occasion, it will focus on projects of First Works in development and will reinforce in a timely and precise manner the experience of the new filmmakers through a workshop to enrich their path towards their first film work.

With the intention of continuing to strengthen the ties and professionalization of the film community of the Baja California peninsula, the Festival will offer a workshop given by prominent representatives of Mexican cinema aimed at filmmakers from the region. The conversation on relevant topics for the film industry continues and will be present through discussion panels.

The excitement of this return could not be complete without an image that distinguishes it. It is an honor to present the poster that will accompany this year's activities of the Los Cabos International Film Festival: Encuentros de cine, a creative proposal by South Californian director David Liles, and a production by Hugo Payén, also originally from Los Cabos. Liles takes as a source of inspiration an iconic ecosystem: the Estero de San José del Cabo, paying tribute to one of the most important wetlands in the extreme south of Mexican California, considered a State Ecological Reserve and declared a Protected Natural Area since 1994.

Liles worked with his memories and digital photos safeguarded by the Historical Archive of B.C.S. - Pablo L. Martínez, to create a hyperrealistic image that seems to be taken from these records. In the image, a pair of children fish in front of a movie screen that emerges like a sunrise between palm trees, reeds and birds that shelter the place. This postcard of Los Cabos of yesteryear is also a tribute to local fishermen, a tradition that is still alive in La Playa, a town next to the oasis and where the creator grew up and also where this year several of the Festival's activities will take place. "As someone from Los Cabos, I created an image that represents us. This is my small tribute to the Estero that I remember; a magical place, inspiration for many stories," says David Liles.
