The Art of Illusion Hugo Robledo and his Mural at Hotel El Ganzo
Hotel El Ganzo, known for its “Artist in Residence” art program, has witnessed the creation of a new work that fuses art and environment in a unique way. Prominent visual artist Hugo Robledo presented a mural at the hotel, expanding his already notable career in the world of spatial and geometric painting.
Robledo, whose work is characterized by the exploration of painting and its extensions into digital and three-dimensional media, conceived a mural that not only dialogues with the architecture of the place, but also harmoniously integrates with the imposing view of the Baja California Sur Peninsula. The piece, created under challenging conditions such as intense sunlight and heat, reflects the essence of the ancient man-made structures in the region, evoking a reflection on the origins of these spaces and the difficulties faced by their builders.
“I designed it thinking of integrating it into the space and the view of this place,” said Robledo. The work captures the changing tones of the sea, a tribute to the vibrant colors and textures that define the region’s maritime environment. “The sea is never the same color,” added the artist, highlighting the constant transformation of the nature that surrounds the hotel.
The creation process was supported by the team at Hotel El Ganzo, who facilitated the logistics and provided assistance to Robledo during his work. This mural, along with a mini-documentary documenting its creation, reiterates the hotel’s commitment to contemporary art and its role as a space for cultural development in Los Cabos.
