Volaris Strengthens Its Leadership in Los Cabos: Greater Connectivity and New Routes to the U.S.
Volaris has consolidated its position as the airline with the largest market share in Los Cabos, representing 21% of the total seats offered. Since its arrival in 2007, it has transported more than 8.9 million passengers, reinforcing its key role in the destination's connectivity.
With the goal of strengthening its presence in the international market, Volaris is expanding its offering with new routes to the United States, consolidating Los Cabos as one of the best-connected destinations with the neighboring country. The recent inauguration of the direct route from Oakland, California, and the confirmation of the route from Ontario, California, reinforce the destination's position in the U.S. market.
The inaugural flight from Oakland, which brought more than 160 passengers to the destination, represents a key opportunity to increase international tourist arrivals and strengthen the destination's presence in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Oakland area. These strategic markets have a high-net-worth traveler profile, aligned with the luxury and exclusivity of Los Cabos.
Volaris currently operates daily flights to nine domestic destinations, connecting Los Cabos with Bajío, Culiacán, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Mexicali, Santa Lucía, Querétaro, Tijuana, and Toluca.
"The opening of these new routes with Volaris is a reflection of the sustained growth that Los Cabos has experienced. Air connectivity is key to the destination's success, and with these new options, we continue to strengthen our accessibility to attract more travelers seeking unique experiences in Los Cabos," said Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA).
For its part, Volaris reaffirms its commitment to the destination's connectivity: "We are very excited about the start of operations of this new route, as in addition to strengthening connectivity between two highly attractive destinations in demand by travelers on both sides of the border, such as Los Cabos and Oakland, we are confident that this route will drive greater social, commercial, and tourist exchange in both regions, contributing to strengthening economic dynamism for the benefit of our customers and their communities," added Jorge Roberto García, Director of Distribution and Market Development at Volaris.
With the addition of these routes, Los Cabos now has direct flights to 32 cities in the United States, 16 domestic routes, 11 from Canada, and one from Germany, consolidating itself as a first-class tourist destination with direct access to the main traveler-sending markets.
The growth in air connectivity continues to reflect the sustained demand and growing interest in Los Cabos, with positive projections for the next six months in the international market. In January 2025, Los Cabos welcomed 329,500 passengers, representing a 0.6% year-over-year growth. Additionally, advance bookings showed a 2% increase in the international market, confirming the destination's strong demand and global appeal.
With these actions, Los Cabos continues to consolidate its position as a leader in North America, offering efficient connectivity and unique experiences for travelers from around the world. Volaris' expansion in Los Cabos not only strengthens the destination's position as a leading tourist hub, but also opens up new opportunities for the region's economic and social development.
