CALL GOVERNOR TO WORK TOGETHER TO REDUCE EFFECTS OF CORONAVIRUS IN TOURISM ACTIVITY

When leading the meeting of the Executive Tourism Commission of the National Conference of Governors (CONAGO), Governor Carlos Mendoza Davis summoned the heads of state entities, Federal authorities and private initiative to join forces and jointly establish actions that mitigate the impact that tourist activity will have in Mexico as a consequence of the pandemic caused by the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
In a meeting that took place in Mexico City, the South California president, president of CONAGO and the Tourism Commission, pointed out the importance of working in one direction only because, in addition to being one of the main axes of the economy, It is one of the sectors most sensitive to all the measures that will have to be taken to deal with this contingency.
“Let there be no doubt, the priority is to contain the pandemic and the priority is the health part; However, not to see that priority, we can not see the other part, the effects it may have on the tourism industry in Mexico, which occupies a good part of the economy, such as in Baja California Sur, which is 75% of GDP, which it is what is going to happen, in what time spectrum is going to happen and what mitigation measures can be taken to be able to endure this emergency, ”he said.
Mendoza Davis highlighted the importance of this meeting to listen to and have the opinions of health specialists and the visions of the Ministry of Tourism, from areas such as civil aeronautics and ports, as well as academic opinion and private initiative.
In this act, in which the Secretary of Federal Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, the President of the Union of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico, Luis Humberto Araiza López, the President of the National Tourist Business Council (CNET), Braulio Arsuaga Losada; As well as specialists in health, the academic sector and private initiative, as well as Civil Aeronautics and Ports, the South California president pointed out that although the priority is to contain this pandemic and avoid a greater number of infections, it is also to protect one from the main economic engines of the country, in this case tourism.
In this sense, he welcomed the response received from those attending this call, since he said it was extremely important to establish a working table where the effects that this pandemic will have on tourism in the Mexican Republic and in which space are analyzed of time will have to occur, in order to take the corresponding mitigation measures to cope with this emergency.
The president of CONAGO, stated that being able to have the opinions and visions of the experts in each of the issues that concern this contingency, will allow strengthening the action protocols in this line, in addition to implementing more effective strategies to deal with this virus.
Finally, the General Director of Health Promotion, Ricardo Cortés Alcalá reported that at the moment there are 93 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the country, 206 suspected cases that are under study and 672 that have been discarded after analyzing their samples in laboratories. accredited.
In this meeting with governors, Cortés Alcalá established that the national health system carries out specific surveillance and epidemiological control actions to reduce the spread of the disease. In this way, it is possible to detect suspected cases in a timely manner, carry out laboratory tests and establish the isolation of patients at home, in order to reduce the risks of transmission, and highlighted that until now in Baja California Sur there are no confirmed cases of Covid-19.
