For several days, the Los Cabos Tourist Trust (Fiturca) and the Los Cabos Hotel Association have been working on a strategy to revive the tourist economy.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: “… we have been working closely with all the Los Cabos tourism providers: the association of hotels, timeshares, restaurants and others, including the airport, to establish a protocol and a guidance that is a reference not only at a national level, but a reference for resorts in other countries on the steps they should take facing this new reality after COVID 19, and that is also aligned with the high quality of service and traditional hospitality that Los Cabos always provides."

Simultaneously, an intense promotional campaign for Los Cabos is being worked on.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: "... we also carry out the campaign called "Los Cabos is waiting you ", which is precisely focused on making a reminding, especially about the unique elements that Los Cabos has, in social networks and in a series of talks that we have been doing in the webinars..."

Up to a thousand travel agents attend virtual webinar meetings.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: “… tomorrow we have a seminar with travel agents in the United States. We have more than 1,000 registered agents who are precisely eager to know what steps are being taken  by Los Cabos authorities, how the touristic activity will be restored. As you know we are going to fulfil the reopening in several phases once the government decides and authorizes us to do so… ”

On whether there will be a universal hygienic protocol in the Los Cabos Mr Esponda commented:

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: "... hotels can do more, but not less than is prescribed by the protocol. It was established for the use of major international brand hotels..."

Possible reopening date was also mentioned.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: “… there is an entire plan established to reopen, starting June . But that date may vary depending on the decision made by the authority…”

On the coordination of the airlines to the Los Cabos, he pointed out:

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: “… the reservations that hotels and timeshares have have been synchronized with the airlines schedules to find a balance point.”

When asked if airlines and hotels will charge cancellations, he commented:

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: "No. That was one of the strategic agreements that were made: in Los Cabos we set a policy of flexibility to changes ... yes, if someone had their hotel, timeshare or a tourist activity reservation they can modify the dates without any penalty. And thanks to that we know that guests who were supposed to arrive in April and May, will come to Los Cabo in September-October: weddings, group meetings that are confirmed because they could be rescheduled without any penalty.”

He also referred to fares in airlines and hotels and the possibility of them being raised.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: “I think as for the hotels it is understood that in order to be attractive at the market, you have to give a fair value for money for what Los Cabos has always been known. Now there is no sense to lower the rates because what guests are looking for is health safety, none of us would go anywhere if it puts us at risk of getting infected. So the first thing is Los Cabos to be healthy. Let's say we are putting a stamp on Los Cabos - safe Los Cabos. Once it is established, it seems to me the airlines will find a balance point. Although it is true that they are not able to sell all the airplane seats, there are credit lines and credit funding that the US government established to help them stay afloat.”

Regarding sanitary prevention measures, he commented:

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: “… arrival at the airport, temperature measurement and different hygiene protocols that are done even with suitcases,  transportation as well, a whole Sanitization protocol for all the transportations that have to be carried out. In the hotels as mentioned, the protocol establishes the highest international standards for food, special lights and treatment procedures to ensure that food is free of virus, none bacteria in the rooms. many of the hotels have the protocol manual that we are establishing, and some other international or national certification

The consensus was achieved so that all hotels in Los Cabos should obtain the "Clean point" certification, which is a national level of certification...”

He also spoke of the goals for the end of this 2020:

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of Fiturca: "We have an established goal: by the end of the year we can recover 70% of business volume of that in 2019 ... and we believe that with this plan we could achieve it, that the market reactivates, and that the visitor's experience is even better than before with better standards, social distancing and many other protocols that we believe will transform the tourism industry.”
