Los Cabos: Leading municipality at the international level with 22 beaches awarded by Blue Flag
91 Blue Flag Mexico sites were approved during the second meeting of the Blue Flag National Jury, season 2020 - 2021, where the Municipality of Los Cabos was ratified as a destination committed to the environment, as well as the municipality with the largest number of beaches with this award, at an international level; 22 beaches will be officially awarded, from July 1st.
19 of the beaches received renovations and 3 new beaches managed to obtain the award: La Gaviota beach, with 100 meters of beachfront, located in the Buena Vista subdelegation; El Surgidero beach, with 100 meters of beachfront, located in the La Ribera delegation, and Monuments beach, with 260 meters of beachfront, located in the Cabo San Lucas delegation, -in front of the Thompson hotel-.
In this regard, the mayor of Los Cabos, Armida Castro Guzmán expressed that it has been a great challenge to maintain and achieve the certification of more beaches: “we are an international example of what should be done with care for the environment. These certifications represent teamwork. Understand that if, as a Government, we do our part, we are also providing service providers with something else to offer: the best beaches in the world. I am very honored to represent the ZOFEMAT team, who have raised the quality of our beaches, "she concluded.
It is important to highlight that, since last November of the year 2019, the XIII City Council of Los Cabos, through the Municipal Coordination of ZOFEMAT, -managed by Javier Ontiveros Fabián-, promoted institutional efforts, which resulted in this international distinction .
Finally, it is recalled that the Blue Flag program rewards those coastal destinations that achieve excellence in their environmental management and management, safety, services and water quality, for which the awards position Los Cabos as a leading municipality at the level international.
