Jack Nicklaus inaugurates Quivira Golf Club in Los Cabos
With an investment of 40 million pesos, Quivira Championship Golf Course was officially opened on December 4, 2014. Located in the exclusive residential complex bearing the same name, this world-class course designed by legendary golfer and course architect Jack Nicklaus, offers 18 holes overlooking stunning landscapes that contrast between the desert and the sea, right where the Sea of Cortes and the Pacific Ocean meet at “Lands End”.
Also called the Golden Bear and considered the best golfer ever, Nicklaus said he was very happy and satisfied to be part of the growth of this destination. During the opening ceremony where Nicklaus played the first hole, were representatives of the tourism sector and other local personalities. In his speech, the principal investor and hotelier, Ernesto Coppel, said: “This project will not only offer golf lovers another great reason to visit Los Cabos, but also be of great benefit in terms of occupancy for the entire destination."
Rubén Reachi, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Baja California Sur, reported that even before the course was officially opened, it had received significant attention:
"Quivira has just been named the best golf course by Golf Magazine, the best international golf destination and it only opened its doors today. To already have that level of recognition, it will soon be recognized as one of the best golf courses in the world. Clearly, Los Cabos is better than ever.”
Also present was Francisco Peña , Undersecretary of Tourism and representing Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who emphasized the 700 million pesos (nearly $5.5 million dollars) through the federal agency FONDEN , will be applied for the rehabilitation of tourism, infrastructure recovery and the overall image of Los Cabos. Additionally, they pointed to new efforts throughout 2015 to assist entrepreneurs, investors, the community, and local authorities in the promotion of this destination and all Baja California Sur.
Quivira promises to be a 'must-visit' for anyone who loves the game of golf, no matter what your skill level.
