Art Baja California Festival Presents a New Edition of ART HOPPING in Los Cabos

On the evening of March 21, Art Baja California Festival invites residents and visitors to a cultural experience outside the traditional circuit with the third edition of ART HOPPING, an evening celebrating the convergence of contemporary art and gastronomy in a single space.

The event will take place at Koral Center, located in Cerro Colorado, where two simultaneous exhibitions will showcase the work of prominent artists such as Leonora Carrington, Ben Horton, Karla de Lara (OZA International), and the emerging artist Sebastián Zura, represented by Ginocchio Gallery.

In this context, Ginocchio Gallery will present the exhibition “From Flowers, From Bones,” a journey through the evolution of Sebastián Zura’s artistic practice, featuring approximately 15 works. The exhibition explores the material and symbolic transformation in his work, from his early pieces centered on the recurring symbol of the flower to his most recent paintings, created with earth pigments from the Baja California Sur desert and black pigment obtained from burnt bones.

Working primarily on raw cotton canvas and using a wooden frame system designed and produced by the artist himself, Zura conceives of painting as a material and ritual process. His artistic practice addresses transformation through gesture, repetition, and the physical properties of matter.

The exhibition proposes a visual journey that begins with early works such as Common Saints (2024), where the flower appears as a repeated symbol within grid-like compositions that evoke a collective imaginary. Later, pieces like Flowers I Never Gave (2025) present overlapping floral fields that reveal a more intimate and expressive approach. The journey culminates with the series Bound to Earth (2026), in which the symbol disappears to give way to minimalist compositions where the painterly gesture and the materiality of the pigment take center stage.

One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the unveiling of a new 30,000 cm² work, the largest format piece created by the artist to date, marking a milestone in his career.

As part of this multidisciplinary experience, renowned chef Poncho Cadena, head chef of the Carbón Cabrón restaurant, has developed an exclusive menu that will be offered only during this evening. The culinary offering engages with the themes of the exhibition, translating the concepts of transformation and materiality into a culinary narrative.

Each dish on the menu evokes a stage in Zura’s artistic practice, beginning with floral notes and marine flavors, evolving toward more earthy profiles, and culminating in a sorbet that symbolizes the transformation present in her paintings. The menu will be available exclusively on the evening of March 21, with reservations between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m.

Concurrently, OZA International will present the exhibition “The Art of the Invisible,” which brings together pieces by the renowned artist Leonora Carrington, as well as works by Karla de Lara and photographer Ben Horton, who will be present during the evening. This exhibition can be visited from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the back courtyard of the Koral Center.

Overall, ART HOPPING offers a cultural experience that fosters dialogue between creative disciplines: art, gastronomy, and curating, solidifying Los Cabos as a meeting place for contemporary artistic expression.
