Los Cabos Strengthens its Tourism Strategy at Tianguis Turístico 2026 and Denies Drastic Drop in Visitors
At Tianguis Turístico 2026, celebrating its 50th anniversary, the director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), Rodrigo Esponda, highlighted the destination's busy schedule and refuted claims of a significant drop in international tourist arrivals.
During an interview on the program "Los Cabos a la Carta," Esponda emphasized the importance of this year's tourism event: "I'm very pleased to be participating again in Tianguis Turístico, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary... we've been having very important meetings."
The official reported that the Los Cabos delegation has a robust agenda with 60 working meetings with business partners from the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America, in addition to meetings with the media. He also noted the participation of 32 companies from the destination, including hotels, destination management companies, and tour operators. One of the main announcements was the launch of a training program in collaboration with the College of Public Image, focused on improving service quality in the destination.
“The goal is to raise the level of attention and service for all employees in the destination... and to provide them with more and better technical tools for customer service,” explained Esponda. The course will be free, in digital format, divided into six modules, and will last two months.
The director of FITURCA emphasized that the destination's image depends directly on those who are part of the service chain: “The employee is Los Cabos. We are all Los Cabos the moment we are in contact with a visitor.”
Regarding recent publications that indicated a drop of up to 49% in U.S. tourism, Esponda was emphatic in rejecting such data: “No, no, no, not at all... what we have is a slight decrease of 0.7% in international arrivals.” He added that the published figures lack any basis: “We don’t know where they got that data because it has no source and isn’t based on real information,” calling the dissemination of unverified information “very irresponsible” due to the impact it can have on the perception of the destination.
Regarding air connectivity, the head of FITURCA clarified that the adjustments announced by Delta Air Lines do not represent a significant impact: “The only impact… is particularly on summer flights from Seattle… all other markets continue, even with some increases.”
He also indicated that new routes from Canada could be announced in the coming days, which would strengthen the diversification of source markets.
Finally, Esponda reiterated that, despite a complex international environment, Los Cabos maintains a stable and competitive trend: “While the trend is slightly downward, it’s nothing compared to what’s happening globally, considering the geopolitical complications.” The destination will continue to promote training, connectivity and international promotion strategies to consolidate its position in the global tourism market.
