The Immersive Discovery Center Museum opens its doors in Cabo San Lucas; They seek to bring the Sea of Cortez closer to residents and visitors
With a call to value and protect the natural wealth of the Sea of Cortez, state and municipal authorities and businessmen inaugurated the new Immersive Discovery Center Museum in the Marina of Cabo San Lucas, a space that combines technology, art and environmental education to show the marine biodiversity of Baja California Sur.
The new venue is part of The Place at Cabo development and represents an investment of close to 100 million pesos. The space was developed with the collaboration of the Mexican company Cocolab, specialized in immersive experiences, and the Taller 2020 office.
During the ceremony, the president of the Questro Group Board, Eduardo Sánchez Navarro, highlighted that millions of tourists visit Los Cabos every year, but many are unaware of the wealth of the Gulf of California.
"Many visitors come to Los Cabos, but few know the wonder of the Sea of Cortez. That is why we have decided to expose this beautiful and valuable area to the population and tourists," he said.
The businessman explained that the project was developed together with the Mexican creative group Cocolab, headed by Alejandro Machorro, and the Taller 2020 office, led by Ramón Armenta. He also noted that the museum seeks to raise environmental awareness through immersive experiences based on real images of marine fauna.
"You are seeing real animals, fish, sharks. It is something that you normally only see if you go underwater. This experience also makes you reflect on the importance of taking care of the environment and ecology," he said.
For his part, the governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, described the facility as an extraordinary project that will help strengthen awareness about marine conservation.
"The way people visualize the sea is going to change a lot. We have to take care of our seas, we have to take care of the environment, and this is going to help children educate themselves and for older people to continue taking care of our environment," he said.
The president highlighted that the technology used in the museum will allow visitors to get closer to scenes and species that live on the seabed, promoting love for nature and knowledge of South California ecosystems.
“The richness of our sea is living wealth, a wealth that must be cared for and loved,” he emphasized.
In turn, the mayor of Los Cabos, Christian Agúndez Gómez, considered the museum's opening a positive investment for the destination and a new alternative within the local tourism offerings.
“Investing in the municipality of Los Cabos and in these types of projects is always a win-win. We are heavily invested in the image and tourism we need to present nationally and internationally,” he commented.
Agúndez Gómez highlighted that the space will not only benefit visitors but also residents of the municipality, who will be able to enjoy an educational and interactive experience about the Sea of Cortez.
As part of the tour, the museum features various themed rooms. Kevin Castillo, the museum's experience host, explained that one of the most important areas is “Essence,” designed to promote the participation of organizations dedicated to marine conservation.
“One of our goals is to promote conservation and raise awareness so people understand the importance of the Sea of Cortez ecosystem and its biodiversity,” he stated.
Castillo added that the objective is to prevent the Sea of Cortez from being the only way to experience it in the future through technology. Therefore, the museum aims to become a platform for disseminating conservation and environmental education projects.
The inauguration of the Discovery Center is part of the transformation underway at the Cabo San Lucas Marina, a space that continues to expand its tourism and cultural offerings. During the event, it was also announced that the reconstruction of a hotel operating under the Universal Studios brand will begin soon, a project that includes hosting international shows and events.
With this new attraction, Los Cabos adds a space that combines technological innovation, scientific outreach, and environmental awareness, offering residents and tourists an experience that seeks to bring them closer to the depths and richness of what is known as the “aquarium of the world.”
