María Vargas from Jalisco Crowned Miss Universe Mexico 2026 in Los Cabos

The representative from Jalisco, 28-year-old María Guadalupe Vargas Naranjo, was crowned the new Miss Universe Mexico 2026 this Saturday during the pageant’s grand finale, held at Rancho Tierra Sagrada by Cabo Adventures in Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos.

A native of Jalisco—and a holder of a degree in International Business, as well as a model, entrepreneur, and writer—she outperformed 31 other competitors (one from each state) and received the crown from Fátima Bosch, Miss Universe Mexico 2025 and the reigning Miss Universe 2025, thereby concluding Bosch’s national reign.

The Top 5 of the evening was composed as follows:

• Winner: María Vargas (Jalisco)

• First runner-up: Mariana Macías (Michoacán)

• Second runner-up: Fernanda Abaroa (Guerrero)

• Third runner-up: Génesis Vera (Veracruz)

• Fourth runner-up: Ximena Ochoa (Mexico City)

During the gala, the candidates walked the runway in swimwear and evening gowns and faced the question-and-answer round. Vargas also stood out in the national costume competition, where the design representing Jalisco (created by Joel García) won and was selected for her to wear at the international pageant.

With this victory, María Vargas becomes Mexico’s official representative for Miss Universe 2026; the 75th edition of the pageant will take place on November 24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The new queen aims to continue the legacy of Bosch, who made history by becoming the fourth Mexican woman to win the global crown.

The finale, which was broadcast for free, drew an eager audience to one of the country’s most iconic tourist destinations and marked the beginning of Vargas’s intensive preparation for the international competition.
