First stone placed for what will be the Los Cabos ATP Open headquarters
With a consolidated tournament within the ATP 250 category and a Headquarters Hotel that is considered the Best Hotel on the ATP Tour circuit, the Mifel Tennis Open presented by Cinemex has taken the next step in its growth project.
With a shared investment of over 5 million dollars, Solaz and Mextenis, presented the new project to the media, through an emotive ceremony in which they laid the first stone for the new Tournament Headquarters, which will be competed in the summer from 2020.
The ceremony was held on the ground where the new complex will be built, located behind the Hotel Solaz on the Tourist Corridor. The event was led by José Antonio Fernandez, Director of the Tournament and Rafael de la Mora, General Director of Olarena, owners of Solaz. Special guests present were Renata Burillo, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Pegaso, Luis Araiza, Secretary of Tourism for Baja California Sur, Armida Castro, Mayor of Los Cabos as well as Hector Barroso, Architect responsible for the Construction of the new headquarters.
“As we promised on our first edition, 2020 will be the year in which we finish the project that we started 5 years ago,” said Fernandez. “After debuting with the right foot in the Tour, in a matter of four years we have established ourselves as one of the best events for the ATP 250 category. Thanks to our partners Olarena, we already have the best hotel of the Tour and next year we will present a complex that will offer a unique experience to both players and fans. ”
In addition to hosting the Tennis Tournament, the complex will also serve to host different entertainment events throughout the year. "It is an honor to be part of this great project where we will be the official Headquarters of ATP 250 Los Cabos and will give us the opportunity to receive other events throughout the year," said Rafael de la Mora.
Seeking to integrate nature with architecture and respecting the flora and surroundings, the new complex will incorporate free spaces for the public along with a Stadium with capacity for 5,000 spectators; a Grand Stand with space for 1,500 fans and 4 courts for play and training.
"We have worked on a project that will surprise many not only for its design, but for the elements and materials we will use in its construction," said architect Hector Barroso. "The complex will have a corridor that will connect the Stadium and the alternate courts with a commercial area, which will assist fan access and experience."
With the aim of continuing to grow and consolidate the ATP tournament within the best, Los Cabos will be integrated into the select group of events in ATP Tour that have a headquarters hotel and sports complex in the same space. “Until this year, only Acapulco, Dubai, Umag and Stockholm had this hotel and tournament facility in the same place, but starting next year, Los Cabos will be a tournament that will give much more to talk about, which everyone will want to come to for the magnificent venue now under construction” the Tournament Director.
