The general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, Rodrigo Esponda, said in an interview for Los Cabos a la Carta and Cabovisión News that, in effect, Virtuoso is the world's most prestigious network of luxury services and agencies, which also has with 30,000 travel agencies and a number of tourism providers that must go through a very strict process to enter the product club.

This, after the offices of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust obtained this recognition: “for us, for Los Cabos, 10% of the hotel rooms are in the Virtuoso Network, that is, of 18,000 hotel rooms, 1,800 are in the network, this proportion is one of the highest in the world, however the resources we have are very small and we were competing against countries like Australia, New Zealand, Austria... entire countries that have a national tourism promotion and development policy that is very large and that they have many resources that they can invest to professionalize travel agents for marketing and communication, we are a region, not even a state… we are a relatively very small destination there are 110 offices worldwide… we were very surprised having won it because in the same event you can see the investments made by other countries…” said Esponda, acknowledging the efficiency of FITURCA that has led its offices to be voted to obtain this distinction thanks to the work that the destination has done in an integral way.

On the other hand, Rodrigo Esponda mentioned that if there is no promotional work, the destination will not continue with the same quality and influx of tourism that it has currently achieved: “in 2016 Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta received the same air flow (2 million arrivals of air visitors, both national and international arrivals” for the year 2021 Los Cabos received 2.8 million air visitors which are the same as received in 2019, for 2021 Puerto Vallarta received 2 million air tourists” he said in a comparison that summarizes the importance to sustain promotional efforts in destinations, hence the need to carry out marketing campaigns such as those that FITURCA has sustained since then.

To conclude, Rodrigo Esponda mentioned that great events continue in Los Cabos with two international congresses that will take place in the destination: Future Leaders and the World Meetings Forum, so without a doubt, FITURCA continues with its work of promoting great and important events of the Meetings Industry.

They propose an increase in the Lodging Tax, 1% would go to the FOIS: Mauricio Salicrup

Salicrup

The president of the Administrative Council of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, Mauricio Salicrup, acknowledged in an interview for Los Cabos a la Carta and Cabovisión News the recognition given to the offices of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) by Virtuoso during the Travel Week 2022 held in Las Vegas from August 13 to 18: "We have to take into account that FITURCA was nominated and competed in this list as the best tourism office, but let's remember that it is exclusively from Los Cabos and competed against entire countries, That speaks of the importance and the work that is done as a team so that the economic engine continues to work properly and we continue to have the results that have been obtained,” he said.

On the other hand, he explained that unfortunately there was a debt left after the departure of the previous administration destined for the operation of FITURCA, although he recognized that the exercise of the cash flow under the Ministry of Finance is different since this new possession, although it has not been been able to settle the previous balance: “in addition to this, we obviously have the issue of how the income flows from the lodging tax have been exceeding the budget, we have been working with the SETUE and with the Ministry of Finance so that they recognize these income and we can apply them to issues that were not labeled at the beginning of the budget due to the budget cap that the State Congress itself had set for us... the FITURCA management has been able to label these resources that have been higher than expected to be executed actions that are attractive for new airplane seats and for more tourism from different parts of the world” he explained.

To conclude, Mauricio Salicrup mentioned that the initiative to modify Article 18 that speaks of the distribution of the money obtained from the lodging tax that proposes to allocate 33% of it to the Infrastructure and Social and Tourist Work Trust (FOIS) and 55 % for FITURCA: "what we did when we learned about the initiative was to try to have a dialogue with this bench in principle so that they knew precisely the work and the issue of resource management, how it is applied and where we are applying it" he said, By accepting that compared to other destinations in other countries, the Los Cabos Tourism Trust handles very little resources, so with what has been achieved, very good work has been carried out. In addition, he mentioned that talks were held with the SETUE and they were able to deliver a proposal that states that the lodging tax be modified from 3 to 4 percent and that an additional one be distributed to the FOIS.
