This Wednesday, October 5, the nominations for the third edition of the Culinary Awards Los Cabos were announced. Representatives of the 139 registered restaurants, sponsors, the media and special guests gathered at the terrace garden of the Esperanza hotel, Auberge Resorts Collection.

The event was led by Amparo García accompanied by Rodrigo Esponda, general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), who emphasized the commitment to support the dissemination of the destination through its gastronomy, an art that has been a great differentiator offering tourists and residents the best culinary experiences, being their main reason for visiting the destination. He also mentioned that 13% of travelers said that the main reason for visiting Los Cabos is gastronomy.

The firm Crowe Méxio, for the third year, joins the project as the one responsible for ensuring the transparency and legality of the evaluation process and its results. Iván Bautista, partner of the company, delivered the envelopes with all the results, which were revealed to all attendees and followers through the various simultaneous transmissions of the media present.

To conclude the nominations event, Rafael García Ceseña, director of Economic Development of H. XIV of the Los Cabos City Council, was invited as spokesman for the rescue of regional gastronomy. He made a special mention to the municipal tourism director Donna Jeffries for being the main link between the private initiative and the government, always promoting the rural area and the destination.

This year the Jury of the Official Selection – Los Cabos Competition is made up of three visionary women committed to the art of cinema and its multiple possibilities to represent our world and its diverse realities.

The cinematographer and director Dariela Ludlow (Mexico), the screenwriter, director, producer and actress, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Canada); and the actress and filmmaker Josephine Decker (United States), will be in charge of viewing, analyzing and selecting those films that deserve the Los Cabos Competition Award, granted by Nobu Hotel ($300,000.00 MXN in cash to the director of the chosen film) and the Cinecolor Los Cabos Competition Award ($812,000.00 MXN in image post-production services for the producer of the winning film).

The director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, Rodrigo Esponda, said in an interview for Los Cabos a la Carta and Cabovisión Noticias that last week the Trust had an important participation in the tenth edition of the ILTM, a fair focused on tourism in luxury that has established itself as one of the most important events for the leaders of this tourism sector in North America: “it was a very successful event where we had a hundred business meetings where we also had a presentation with the media and a presentation of the destination , so it was very relevant, there were 19 hotels from the destination present so there is a great representation and it is a great reference in Los Cabos for what is happening at an international and even regional level regarding recovery, growth and positioning in the industry ” he mentioned.

Rodrigo Esponda mentioned that Los Cabos has become one of the favorite destinations for tourists, because within the United States, agents have made more reservations for families seeking the attractions of Los Cabos with long stays.

On the other hand, the director of FITURCA said that large events such as the ATP, which registered that almost half of the attendees were tourists, a very high number of people who traveled to the destination specifically to attend the event, so, without a doubt, both the Ironman and the 11th edition of the Los Cabos International Film Festival projected to take place in November, added the VIP Summit and the next sport fishing tournaments will attract more tourism to the destination, hoping for a successful end of 2022.

Rodrigo Esponda clarified that various studies have been carried out to assess the return on investment in each of the events held to measure the impact in terms of the number of visitors and economic spillover, in addition to the corresponding management with the Ministry of Finance for the resources of the Trust to continue promoting the destination mainly, a fact that has undoubtedly placed Los Cabos as the top destination in Mexico and one of the most coveted in the world.

Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of FITURCA: "We have the presence of organizers and congresses and conventions from 13 countries, including 10 that are coming from Spain taking advantage of the direct route that we have with Avoris, we are sure that this will allow us to internationalize and that Los Cabos and that all the offer that we have in the destination can be known by attracting a market segment that also generates greater income and an average rate higher than the average rate that the destination has”

The main topics focused on the sustainability of tourist destinations, maintaining responsibility in environmental matters, with the Ministers of Tourism of Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic as speakers:

Iván Eskildsen Alfaro, Minister of Tourism of Panama: "Those who manage to position themselves and develop a truly sustainable product will be the businessmen, the entrepreneurs... in the end I am fully convinced that those who manage to position themselves and develop that business in this way will better capture the market".

Four days of exchange of experiences, presentations and interesting business closings that will undoubtedly keep Los Cabos as a leading destination in this tourism sector.

This global event that brought together the international leaders of meeting tourism in Los Cabos will allow this industry to continue consolidating itself as a market segment that can generate a greater economic impact in the destination.
