As a preventive measure before COVID-19, Los Cabos suspends tourist activity during April

Como medida preventiva CNT 1

Los Cabos, BCS, March 31, 2020.- The current situation before COVID-19 requires responsible actions to guarantee the general welfare. In this sense, the public and private sectors of Los Cabos have made the decision to pause all activities related to tourism during the month of April.

The travel and tourism industry, from the heart of Los Cabos, supports 90% of the state economy, in addition, according to figures from the INEGI National Survey of Occupation and Employment, 74.5% of the workforce depends on the industry. In this sense, the great work carried out by the private sector in order to maintain as many jobs as possible during the contingency is to be recognized.

All action is focused on maintaining, in the smallest possible range, the COVID-19 figures, which at the moment indicate nine confirmed cases in Los Cabos, so the following measures established by the corresponding authorities for the transitional phase will continue to be implemented :

Security measures:

The Baja California Sur Safety Committee has decided to close access to all the state's beaches to reduce the risk of contagion.

Detection measures have been established at the San José International Airport and at the ports of Baja California Sur to carry out controls on passengers.

In the event that one of the passengers registers a high temperature and / or presents potential symptoms of the virus, containment measures have been designed to activate the site.

Background check of all passengers to confirm where they have traveled in the last 14 days.

Bars, restaurants, casinos and gyms will be closed until further notice.

Meetings will be limited to no more than 25 people, including churches and religious organizations.

Local residents are encouraged to use grocery and food delivery services to minimize exposure.

Cleaning and disinfection protocol for public transport units.

Health measures:

Safety protocols and medical decisions have been made by the health safety committee that was previously organized by state authorities to advise during this crisis.

If necessary, the state Ministry of Health will increase capacity by adapting additional care units outside hospitals and equipping them with respiratory equipment.

Hospitals have expanded the use of telemedicine within their facilities and to reach patients in their homes. People who feel sick should stay home and call the state emergency line # 800-BCS-COVID (800-227-26843) for a doctor to evaluate them.

Economic measures:

State authorities will launch a social program to provide food assistance to the most vulnerable populations.

With these actions, Los Cabos seeks a strategic containment of the pandemic until April 30, in order to return to the usual dynamics as soon as possible, considering that the vast majority of the inhabitants of the destination base their economy on tourism.
