This June 15 begins the gradual reactivation of tourist activities in Los Cabos, based on a five-phase strategic plan and a Covid-19 Management Protocol, developed in a coordinated manner by different members of the industry in order to guarantee the health and safety of citizens and visitors.

“Thanks to the joint efforts that we have made government and private initiative, the World Travel and Tourism Council recently granted us its Safe Travel seal, which positions us in an ideal setting for the reopening of businesses. Complex times are coming, of great challenges, and I want to urge you to face them and win together, "said Luis Humberto Araiza López, Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability of Baja California Sur, before concluding that" today is a holiday. , of celebration for all, Baja California Sur, Los Cabos, is back, we are stronger, safer and more united than ever. ”

The strategic plan, in addition to having a multisectoral perspective, addresses the health recommendations issued by the Federal Government and the State Health Council, in accordance with international provisions on this matter. Tourist activities will resume in the following order:

  • Phase I: Travel activities with a limit of international and national arrivals.

Service providers in the sector will focus on the implementation of health and hygiene protocols.

  • Phase II: International terminal at the airport and slow recovery of international arrivals.
  • Phase III: Recovery of national and international arrivals, especially reservations that were previously postponed.
  • Phase IV: Return of luxury travelers and groups, as well as visitors from Canada and the United Kingdom. Recovery of 60% of the reserves projected by EOY.
  • Phase V: Restoration of 60% of air connectivity together with 80% of reserves.

“From the Los Cabos Hotel Association we continue our commitment to open in an orderly manner. In this sense, by July 1 we will already have 50% of the inventory available and we will continue opening; In this way, from August you will be able to see practically all the inventory ready for a demand that we hope will evolve in a positive way. We are already waiting for you! ”Said Mauricio Pérez Salicrup, president of the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, after thanking the state and municipal governments for their guidance and support for a successful reopening, as well as the community of destination for having “carried up to the mark” and contributing to cooperation with the traffic light in the entity.

For its part, the Covid-19 Management Protocol contemplates strict health and safety measures throughout the destination to guarantee a safer travel environment:

  • Health and hygiene manuals.
  • Reinforcement of hygiene, cleanliness, physical distance from the traveler and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Standardized health review protocols at the airport and port.
  • Association with travel providers to obtain the "Clean Point" certification, offered by the Ministry of Tourism in Mexico, and thus strictly comply with hygiene protocols.
  • Flexible travel policies.
  • Streamlining of communication protocols between the hotel, suppliers and local authorities.

“The guidelines for the reopening of the restaurant trade union in Los Cabos have been created with the support of the government and a group of experts in various types of certifications. We are convinced that the perception of the service, at this time, will be based on good attention from the staff and, above all, on how safe the diner feels observing the environment, and in particular the training of those who attend to them. this new normal ”, explained Gianmarco Vela, national vice president of Canirac, who also commented that the annual“ Sabor a Cabo ”event that usually takes place in early December, will be postponed to the first or second quarter of 2021 due to the fact that require at least 8 months in their preparation.

As part of the reopening strategy, Los Cabos has implemented a comprehensive communication system to direct messages with specific objectives to three different audiences; local, national and international. In this sense, there will be three campaigns to prepare locals to receive tourists, as well as to connect with potential travelers and position the destination as the ideal place to "return to life" after the period of confinement.

“The announcement of the reopening is accompanied by two very positive news. The first is that on July 4 the Eastern airline will arrive at the destination for the first time with a new direct route from New York, which is a sign of confidence in the destination. The second is that, in the GDS, travel consolidators, Los Cabos registers forceful figures of the recovery. As of today there are book reservations for the months of June, July and August of 14, 29 and 36% of the bookings presented in 2019, this means that if you have everything, including the campaigns, the market will be receptive and a quick recovery can be expected ”, concluded Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, General Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust.

Telemedicine, a tool that allows better care due to Covid-19 contagion: Carlos Mendoza Davis

Telemedicina CNT 1

The remote medicine strategy, implemented by the Government of Baja California Sur to deal with the contingency caused by Covid-19, “continues to be an important tool for detecting and promptly monitoring patients channeled into home isolation, with the perspective to verify that they evolve in a positive way or proceed to hospital admission in the event that they present complications, "said Governor Carlos Mendoza Davis after making a call to the South Californians to use this tool that will allow timely care and better taking advantage of the infrastructure available in the state.

During the working session of the State Committee on Health Safety, in which the Secretary of Health, Víctor George Flores, and the representatives of Social Security and ISSSTE, as well as the Armed Forces and the municipalities of Los Cabos, were present, La Paz and Loreto, the importance of keeping distancing measures in force and in case of suspicion, using the telephone service with the number 800BCSCOVID (80022726843), as well as in the digital self-diagnosis application that is available on the page, was highlighted. web coronavirus.bcs.gob.mx, through which 22,416 services have been provided.

Mendoza Davis recalled that this scheme allows remote care to be given to people who are suspected of having the disease, thus avoiding saturation of hospital units and guaranteeing the provision of services to patients with severe clinical conditions.

Through these two platforms, the concerns of people with respiratory symptoms are received. They are screened by questionnaire to define if they comply with the signs associated with this infection (such as dry cough, fever and difficulty breathing) and, if so, they are channeled to qualified doctors who provide telephone or video call consultations.

This telemedicine strategy allows reducing the influx of people to hospitals, thus preventing people from being exposed to the spread of the disease and reinforcing the availability of hospital beds for patients positive for Covid-19 who present severe conditions, pointed out the health Secretary.

It was also announced that the evaluation of non-essential activities that have been reactivated is continuing and that it will be in the next few days when it is determined whether a further step will be taken or, if the situation warrants, return to the suspension of operations.

Hoteles CNT 1

The State Committee on Health Safety authorized to go from level 6 to 5 in the Health Alert System from June 15 to 21, with which non-essential economic and sociocultural activities may be reestablished with the timely monitoring of protocols that take care of the health of South Californians. "The intention is to gradually and responsibly move to the new reality of the state and the country, releasing activities that reactivate the economy, but with the lowest possible impact on health," said Governor Carlos Mendoza Davis in a published video. the afternoon-night of this Thursday, June 11.

During this period, the behavior of the pandemic in Baja California Sur will continue to be monitored, in such a way that in the committee session next week, it will be determined whether to continue, or return to level 6.

This transition to alert level five allows the reactivation of full-service restaurants (including restaurants and drink services in timeshare accommodation), dining services for companies and institutions, restaurants with a la carte or regular food services and self-service stores, real estate agencies, sales agencies of transport vehicles, retail trade of natural products, glassware, china and kitchen utensils, retail trade of furniture, equipment and computer accessories, as well as automotive glass and trucks, hotels, motels, timeshares, and other lodging services, including on-property services, sport fishing, and rental of washing machines and household items.

The reestablishment of activities in this type of companies will have to occur with the full fulfillment of requirements that the State Health Safety Committee itself established for level five of health alert by Covid, such as ensuring that in the areas of attention to the public there is one client for every four square meters and that in recreational and socio-cultural activities the capacity is limited to 30 percent of the capacity of spaces.

In addition, sanitary protocols such as disinfecting commonly used surfaces and providing supplies for hand hygiene, which is decisive for the prevention of infectious diseases, will have to be followed, said the state president, recalling that healthy distance is a measure that came to stay.

The State Health Safety Committee will keep a punctual monitoring of the behavior of the pandemic, to determine if it continues or recedes, hence the importance in which the population applies with responsibility and solidarity the measures established to prevent infections.

In relation to recreational and sociocultural activities, the governor said: “… they may be carried out exclusively in places such as parks and beaches determined and authorized by each municipal authority; in them, the municipality itself will establish the capacity of the place and only 30% of the maximum capacity of people allowed will be located in each of them… ”
