There are 84 partners, 3 of them are in Todos Santos, 40 of them have already made the decision, two weeks ago, to close operations, this is equivalent to more than 60% of hotels that remain open, it is very important to mention that the man power with which they are working is very low, according with the occupations that they have been presenting.
Until yesterday we were at 4% and it is a downward trend.
They also have comply with the cleaning standards stipulated by the health sector to be operating, so far it is also important to mention that the consumption centers and common areas are closed, like restaurants and spas, according with the COVID19 protocol to take care of all the employees, all this to contain the virus and stop the spread of it.
The hotel sector is very aware of the economic effects that this pandemic is going to bring to Los Cabos, Specially it’s important to Los Cabos that 90% of the local economy depends on tourism as you mentioned, we have been working very close, hand to hand with the human resources association that works also with the state system of employment of Los Cabos, through the presidents of both dependencies, who have been seeing together, to try to identify some schemes that will help to provide security to employees, to be able to stay and maintain the labor base salary, this because each hotel is making its own decisions, each hotel as an individual company and taking the necessary measures, but always with the objective and the commitment to maintain the main number of employees with base salary.

Mauricio Salicrup Pdte. of the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos Hotel Association
The current situation is very clear, we made the decision to send a notice to all our international partners and cooperatives that we have, that should be better to close Los Cabos during the month of April; The reason is because it was better to support the State Government with the COVID 19 protocol, The State Government announce precise instructions that hotels should have to be empty until Sunday, April 5, so that on Monday, April 6, practically all the hotels in Los Cabos were close.
Armando Figaredo (AF): I mean, are there not going to be exceptions?
Mauricio Salicrup (MS): No exception
AF: If for example some planes are arriving, So I understand that some planes are still arriving, Thats for if the crew need to rest, they will need rent one of these Air B&B houses?
MS: No, I have to tell you that Air B&B page was updated and if you try rent one of the properties, you get a notice that you are breaking the rules of the State Government, and if you make the payment after they are warning you will not be able to use it. Here obviously the airlines have much less traffic than usually, there was a series of canceled flights, so with that adjustment that the airlines are making, It will not need for the hotels to stay open during the month of April, hotels make sleep arrangements for the crew , so this is not going to be a problem; and after the Governor notice to close all the hotels in the area, we evidently obeyed it immediately, because we are very interested in the chain of contagion succeed and being well managed and controlled, to prevent that the contagion curve will stay low. Last night, the Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco, released a statement to all hotels in the entire Mexican Republic, and basically the same, that in April, all the hotels in the entire Mexican Republic must be closed, and the only difference is that in the current statement he declare that some hotels in some areas should to be available to work as hospital, so for now, in Los Cabos, which is what concerns us, From monday, all the hotels must be closed and everyone should stay in home until the State Government, through the Ministry of Health, controls the contagious curve.
AF: This situation never seen before, I think it will be a historical precedent, that we have hotels without guests, but what about the staff ?, at least maintenance, because I understood that instructions had been given that some Hotel collaborators, they could be taking care of some minimum services, is everything going out here or is there surveillance and I imagine that some maintenance is not?
MS: If you look, each hotel is a business unit and each one is making decisions about how operate, these days that are closed to the public, we are talking about closing to the public, but the hotel is just like a house, if you close You are not constantly cleaning your house and you are not maintaining and it is obviously it gets damaged, so we don’t want that happens, then the hotels are closed, but it does not mean that they don’t have internal traffic and there will not be employes. Obviously not all the staff, Guards and cleaning team, who are working on maintenance issues, I will comment, there are some hotels that are work as a home for employees and all of them will be isolated to avoid infections

Armando Figaredo (AF): How is posible that so many organizations succeed to meet so fast ?
Mauricio Salicrup (MS): What was happening is that the situation we are living now with the COVID-19 is totally different from the events we were live in the past, with natural phenomenons and any other matters that could have damaged our destiny, this time It is not exclusively of Baja California Sur that could be an economic reaction and we are all aware that at federal level no help has been received, no sign of respect for families that in some way need support.
MS: It has always been said that the hotels are the luxury part, and the neighborhoods areas are not fully attended, etc. and this is a way to show to the population of the Los Cabos that the entrepreneurs are supported them and we are united, we must work as a team, Los Cabos is all of us and as I said before, the concern is that the food arrives to the people and they help us and stay in home to prevent the contagion to continue.
